My mother had the surgery done last summer, but was not able to obtain insurance assistance. She took out a personal loan with her local credit union/bank. By paying for the surgery in cash, or not relying on the insurance companies for payment the doctor she used gave a sizable discount for his services, as did the hospital. Hope this helps.
