Question:
Has anyone had a hysterectomy a few years after gastric bypass.

If so, do i need to talk to the doctor who did my bypass to inform him along with the OB doctor. Is there anything I should be concerned about.    — Skyler28 (posted on February 26, 2010)

You may want to talk to your OB GYN Doctor about hormone replacement to help with menopause symptoms. Having a gastric bypass doesn't have anything to do with a hysterectomy. But the side effects of menopause are night sweats, I soak the bed my covers, I have to get up and dry off. Migraine headaches, Hot Flashes, Definitely talk to your ob gyn.

I have my RNY done 8/08 and my hysterectomy 07/09. I have had no issues related to either. Depending on the type of procedure you are going to have and if they are going to leave the overies or not you won't even need meds. If they are taking the overies you may want to discuss the hormone meds with your OB/GYN becuae you may have some issues due to how you break down meds now. other than than I wouldn't worry about a thing. I feel great and no more pain or issues that I was dealing with for over 10 years beucase "if you loose weight you won't have these problems". Guess what I did loose the weight and I still had problems. I am sure that no one else on this site has ever had that problem...LOL

I had problems after my gastric bypass. The doctor did blood work and it showed that my estrogen levels were almost zero. I was still taking my HRT every day. I had both ovaries removed so I am dependent on replacements. The doctor changed me over to an estrogen patch (vivelle-dot)as she stated many people have malabsorption issues. Now I am back to normal. I hope this may help you.

I just had a total abdominal hysterectomy on Feb 15, 2010. They also removed cysts on both ovaries. They kept my ovaries in but took out the uterus and cervix. I had no cancer either which was great news. I dont' have to take hormone replacment either because I kept in my ovaries. I am 45 yrs so I will go into menopause sometime in the near future. I had my gastric bypass on July 28, 2009. So that was about 7 months ago tomorrow. good luck to you
