Question:
One year out and feeling hungery
I am one year out from RNY surgery and lost around 99 lbs. But, in the past three weeks I feel hungery all the time. I do not know if it is head hunger or what. If you have any sugguestions as to how to get over this hump - please let me know. I got my one year blood work report back and everything was fine. — tspires (posted on January 13, 2010)

They say you start feeling hunger again about a year out, so it may be true
hunger. I have been feeling a bit hungry in the mornings, but am still
trying to live in denial about it. I don't have any suggestions as to get
over it, unless you eat some protein to take the edge off. Maybe check in
with yourself to make sure you aren't wanting to try stuffing some feeling
with food. Good luck.

For some people, the nerves that have been cut during surgery take a short
time to heal. (one month-1yr+) feeling, like butterflies or like an itch in
your abdomen. Those are the nerves that control hunger. Maybe control
isn't the right word, but that is the case. So, for me it was about 3
months out post op I started to get hungry. It was hunger, I had the loud
growling pangs to back it up. If you don't feel anything physical in your
pouch going on, then it is probably head hunger. It could even be thirst.
So pay attention to the feeling, thirst factor and then yes your nerves
have grown back which is normal. Now it the time to really pay attention to
if you really are hungry. I can help you further if you like. I am 4 yrs
post op. So, don't hesitate to ask me anything. Glad to hear your labs
were good.

I find when I get to feeling hungry I eat a few nuts or drink milk.
Something heavy in protein that works for me not against me. I also eat
small amounts all day long not three meals in a day. don't let the hunger
lead you to chips, candy, or carbs and you should be fine. Sometimes just a
hot cup of tea will fill me. fine something you like that is good for you
to keep on hand when these feelings hit and you will be fine.

I am approaching 3 months out and just over the last week or two I also
have been noticing hunger feelings that I was not feeling before. And it
is hunger with stomach growling. I would love suggestions from anybody. I
am trying to watch my liquid intake and eat protein when I feel this, but I
am already scared that my pouch has stretched? Is that even possible so
early?
