I was having a similar problem and was only taking 1000 mg a day then i read on one of the websites that you can safely take 5000 mg a day so now i am taking 2500 mg pill in the am and another 2500 mg pill in the evening. Also Aveeno now makes a shampoo and conditioner that i found to be very helpful.

I have been using a generic form of Rogaine for over eight years. It is a topical liquid you use twice a day. I buy mine at the Wal mart. Its in a pink box and its called Minoxidil (for women) . You get a three month supply for less than $20.00. Its the best produce I have used on my hair. I am still losing hair however the Minoxidil has kept the top of my head from going nearly bald from heridity.Good Luck, Karen

My dietician told me you also have to take zinc and that zinc is more significant than the biotin regarding your hair - although I was told to take 2,000 mg of biotin as well.

I had thought about starting to take biotin pre-WLS, but then started reading on here about biotin causing hair growth where it's not wanted... (i.e. above the upper lip on women). Has anyone experienced this? I wonder how often that happens.

I am in the process of having the RNY. My hair is VERY thin and my surgeon told me to double my biotin and zinc. I take 10,000mcg (this is equal to 10 mg) of biotin and 100 mg of zinc (usually one pill is 50 mg). I can feel stubble's but my hair doesn't look any thicker. I can't afford to lose any after surgery, but I know I will. I have two wigs standing by and will be in the process soon of a wiglet - or maybe just lots of pretty hats. LOL

I take 2500 Mg biotin and my hair is filling back in. I have not heard of it causing facial hair. I have been taking it for six months no problems.
