Question:
How long does
How long does a typical RNY surgery take from prep to being returned to the room to rest? — SPIRIT2002 (posted on June 21, 2009)

My surgery only took an hour, then I went to recovery, then to ICU for the
first day. I think I got to ICU about 6 hours after I got to the hospital
that morning. I got there at 6:30 and was probably in ICU by 12:30ish. It
sure didn't seem long to me but of course I don't remember anything but
going to the operating room door and then waking up in ICU.

I was told to be at the hospital at 5:30am for a 7:30am operation. Went in
right at 7:30am. I think it took about two hours but I also had a hiatal
hernia they found that they had to take care of too. Had to wait for a bed
to open up so was in recovery room for a few hours but popped out to a nice
private room by about noon.

I was in surgery 1 1/2 hours then recovery for 3 hours and in my room by a
little after noon. As above post noted it didn't seem long to me as I was
out prior to going to the OR and was bleary in recovery so I pretty much
was to myself when I got to the room where my family was waiting for me. I
know it seemed a lot longer to them. Kevin

I had to be at the hospital at 5:35 AM. Surgery was at 7:30. I was told
that I was in recovery at 11:00 and returned to my room at 3:00.

my daughters surgery was on the 15th and they took her at 1:30 and she was
up in her room around 6pm...but my surgery and recvery were shorter than
that...so it differs case by case... Good luck to you! hugs, Kim

My surgery was at noon, and I was out of the OR, and into recovery within
90 minutes. I was only in recovery for about an hour, maybe 90 minutes,
but I know I was in my room by about 3:30.

It should take between 1-3 hours provided your liver isn't enlarged and in
the way. Or it can also depend on how long it takes you to awaken from the
anesthsia. (sp) Hope this helped.
