Question:
Pregnancy & Baby Aspirins

I am 8 years post op and trying to conceive. My doctor prescribed baby aspirins among other medications. I didn't realize they were on the prescription until I filled it and took them home. I've been taking the others but not the baby aspirins because I'm sure at the time of my WLS I was told aspirins and ibuprofen were off limit forever. I'm thinking that maybe these are alright to take since they are baby ones and so the dosage will be much less, and because I'm so many years post-op also. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.    — dandjon (posted on March 15, 2009)

Does your doctor know you had WLS? Also, I'm wondering why they are prescribing baby aspirin at all. I never had to do that to aide in conceiving. You're also not suppose to take any time of aspirin or Ibuprofen when you're pregnant...only Tylenol. I'd just double check with your OB or fertility specialist as to why they're neccessary and go from there. Best of luck conceiving...and continued success with the weight loss! Hugs...Cheryl

My surgeon said that it was ok if I took Aspirin that was enteric coated or E.C. (it will say it on the bottle). It has a coating on it that will allow it to pass through your system and dissolve after the stomach. My friend had a thyroid problem and also had to take a baby aspirin to get pregnant.GOOD LUCK!

I am 1 week pre op and I talked to my surgeon because I am already on baby aspirin. She assured me that I can go back on baby aspirin after my surgery. I take the chewable orange ones.

I am 2 1/2 years post op and take ibuprofen as needed as long as I take a stomach pill with it. No problems to report. Good luck!

Thanks ladies, it seems as though it may be ok to take them. It's my PCP who prescribed them and not my Gyn; I guess because I told her I was trying to conceive. And she does know that I had WLS. I'll ask her when I go back, just in case she forgot about my WLS, although that's something she shouldn't foget. I appreciate your responding. Thanks so much, and all the best in your WLS journey, wherever you may be in your journey.
