Question:
Is are we allowed to have sparkling (carbonated) waters??

I have talked to a lot of WLS folks and they all say they felt terrible after drinking anything carbonated. It seems to bubble up and I know that I looked like a mad dog, frothing at the mouth. Susan

Nope! Carbonation can expand your stomach pouch. And after being off carbonation for 10 months, I can tell you it is awful on the mouth and the tummy!

Hello -- my doctor said absolutely no carbonated drinks --- for the same reason as stated above... It expands the pouch. may this be of help... gk

Nothing carbonated... no carbonated drinks at all. Not even water.

No carbonated drinks for all the above reasons are correct. Especially explanding the pouch let along the trouble that goes with it. I wonder why some nurses or staff members don't tell this to their patients?

I even read (sorry can't remember where)that a "flat" carbonated drink is bad as there is still CO2 in it. My surgeon's office taught in a class that CO2 expands when warmed up by the body. Not good for a now smaller pouch. For me personally, I will not want to go through my surgery next month only to ruin it for a little bit of bubbly.

I stay away from them mostly, but enjoy a 1/2 a can of Fresca now an then...I usually use it in mixed drinks like with a little mango juice and crushed mint leaves and crushed ice in the summer...I just sip it...I think you must use your own discretion in these matters! I couldn't touch anything carbonated for years though (OUCH!!!) and didn't even bother!
