I hope this doesn't sound bad because I totally don't mean for it to ...
But do you really like your doctor THAT MUCH that you are willing to let
him hold you back like this? This is just my own personal opinion but ...
Maybe you need to find a new doctor. If you really want to keep this one,
then I would suggest hounding his office on a daily basis until your
paperwork gets done.

Find yourself a Bariatric Surgeon you like and let him get the other docs
to communicate. He will help you get the approvals and will tell you if
your curent doc is not going to help so you can find a new family
practicioner. Also they can recomend and get you into a new guy that
understands what you need to do.

When I ran into not one but two primary care doctors who were anti weight
loss surgery, I kept changing until I found a doctor who would support me
in it.
Truthfully, I would be kind of concerned about a doctor not even knowing
what a gastric bypass was! So maybe it's time for a change.

I totally agree with these answers, you don't want a primary care doctor
that never heard of gastic bypass surgery. He should have some knowledge
of this procedure. You may need his help with some medical issues that may
happen. I told my doctor about the procedure and he was very supportive
and let me know that he would be there to help. I get my B-12 shots from
his office. He is the kind of doctor that will work with the surgeon to
help me. Please understand that this surgery is too important to have a
doctor on your medical team that act as if he don't care about your health.
He could at least talk with you and try to find out what you need from
him. I woul find another doctor fast. This is your well-being. Drop him.

Hi, Kim, please find another doctor... if you can't do that, then call your
doctors office every day, the office staff will get sick of hearing from
you and put the pressure on the doc (I live with one and seriously he hates
to have his office staff pestering him so he gets what ever they want done
fast). Whether you find a new primary care physician or not, make sure
your PCP knows and understands RNY because you will need his/her support in
the future. He will be following your progress and needs to be up on all
the possible complications and issues that you might have after surgery.
Good luck and hang in there.

If your doctor truly doesn't know what gastric bypass is you need to run,
not walk, to a new doctor! Your current one is ill-informed and will not
be supportive of your efforts.

Hi Kim,PLEASE,PLEASE,reevaluate your doctor!!!! That is very
"ALARMING" that your primary care doc doesn't know what gastric
bypass is. Even the least educated can have some knowledge of this wls! I
would seriously consider changing to a new primary care doc and begin
looking for the bariatric surgeon of your choice that can assist you in
your goals! Think of it this way,do you really want to rely on a doc that
doesn't seem to have your best interest at heart? YOU DESERVE BETTER!!!
BEST OF LUCK IN YOUR JOURNEY!!!! kurtsgirl

Many Doctors are just against it..Morally. I agree find another Doctor.
Some DOCTORS dont understand how bad it is to overweight and the problems
it creates, They dont understand how hard it is too loose especially when
you have tried everything. I think some doctors just dont understand or
care.

If you aren't able or willing to find a new doctor, I would suggest making
an appointment and taking the forms with you. Then when he is in the room
with you, ask him to fill them out and wait in the office until he's done
so.
Good luck.

Please listen to what these have told you. First, if he really doesn't
know what wls is, I wouldn't let him treat me for a head cold. 30 minutes
on the slowest computer could tell him the basics, if he was a
janitor...and he's supposedly passed medical school. They need to close
that school if they didn't teach him something about it, they've been
performing this surgery for 40 years. The technology is better, but the
principal is basiocally the same. Secondly, if he cares so little about
his profession that he hasn't been keeping up with the new research and
procedures, he's scary, it's part of his "job". In the third
place, you need someone who is trustworthy to care for you after the
surgery. This guy cannot be depended on, and your life is at stake here.
I went through three doctors and two medical facilities before I found one
that I felt cared enough to be there for me. (One facility was underwater
after Hurricane Katrina).
You deserve a lot better than this, hang in there. You've got friends
here.
