Question:
nausea
I am 2 weeks post op rny and experiencing nausea 24 hrs a day. This began even before I started my soft food diet. Has anyone experienced this before? I'm getting desperate. — glasshouse (posted on July 23, 2008)

Hi, Breanna. I was nauseous for just slightly over two weeks post-op. I
asked for and got a prescription to combat nausea, filled it, and, of
course, the nausea stopped. Let's hope the same happens for you.

I bought sugar free ginger ale and stirred the fizz out and let it go flat
and sipped on that for months. Didn't hurt me, I still lost 200 lbs but
sure helped with nausea.

Just ask your doc for a perscription. The drugs you received during
surgery are still in your system and they along with the air in your gut
are still causing the nausea. Also if you had RNY, you have a lot of
stitches that are still healing that are adding to it.

I feel for you! I'm almost 5 years out and in the begining i got nausious
for everything. The smell of food or seeing the dirty plates in the sink.
What really helped me was rubbing alcohol. It was with me everywhere (swabs
in my purse) I found that once i inhaled it a few times,i felt better.
Everyone is different, but it doesnt hurt to try. Good Luck!

Me too! It seems to just go with the surgery. I finally got compazine
tabs...the other one...Zofran I think works faster but I could not tolerate
the taste of it melting in my mouth. It is expensive and I would just throw
it up. One big help for me was my CPAP machine. I would lie down, put the
mask on and inhale the air...fall asleep and wake better....really helped!
Good luck.

I was nauseated for months after surgery and couldnt get in all of my water
w/o nausea - mostly had gas in my stomach (even from drinking water). RNY
surgeon gave rxs and then recommended "Papaya Supplement" which I
bought at GNC. Seem to help a bit, but still had problem.
Then 3 mos. after RNY, I had problems w/2 kidney stones and IMMEDIATELY,
literally an hour after I had surgery - all the nausea went away. I had an
insatiable taste for any fluid I could get my hands on. After talking with
other RNY patients, they had procedures that was similar to
"intubation" which they put the breathing tube down your throat
during surgery. When that was accomplished that must have
"forced" open my esophagas to my stomach.
Hope this info. helps.

I am about 4 months post op. I had the same problem and figured out that it
was the whey protein shakes I was drinking about 3 times per day in the
beginning days and week after surgery. I called the nutritionist at barix
clinics and she suggested the I go to GNC and purchase the soy based
protein powder. It worked. The lactose intolerance that i had before
surgery got worse after so the whey upset my stomach.
