Question:
Comment
I don't know. I made the statement because it saddened me that there are so many unanswered questions. I believe the best teacher is experience, however, there are some questions posed that should have been handled medically for what ever reason that they were not is my concern. I am well pleased that there are questions. Once again, networking is a great resource. Can we move on? Bypasschick — bypasschick (posted on March 19, 2008)

Part of the problem with education is that not all doctors work equaly at
serving the WLS patient. My doctor makes us attend classes. I was two
days in classes with test. Each visit to his office he loans us another
book to read. I even have watch a video of the RNY surgery from start to
finish before I had the surgery, because he though that I needed to
understand it. It way great for me, not everyone, but just what I needed
to know. Some doctors just collect the check, run the patient through
surgery and leave it to the hospital to make sure they are OK to go home.
If you know anything, it was because you asked. I went to many of their
selling seminars, but only a few truly impressed me that I would get the
knowledge from them to use the tool we received correctly. I try to
respond to several lost soals a day on this site as many others do, but so
times you just can't repete the same message that many times.

As a pre-op I really appreciate all the responses and questions asked. It
allows me to know somewhat to expect. I really feel that this is a support
area of Obesity help and the biggest thing is if you don't have something
good to say maybe just don't say anything at all. There has been a lot of
negative comments here and it shouldn't be. As obese people we have all
been treated with predjuice. Many of us are ashamed to ask a lot of
questions. And the predjuices range from person to person. If you wiegh in
at 250 people don't stare as bad as when someone wieghs 450. Some of these
people have problems saying anything and to come to this site and be
slammed by your peers is bad. I have come to a decision that there are too
many angry people here and I must add there are some wonderful people here
who do want to help, but negative I don't need. I will no longer be on
this site and I won't have to worry that I might spell something wrong or
ask a stupid question. Good luck to you all and I have for the most part
enjoyed this site.

To Beverly, please don't leave the site. We are all in this crazy ride
together, and only someone else who has had the actual procedure knows what
it's like. There are some negative comments, and I agree, that this forum
shouldn't be used as a soapbox to take out our bad days on others. But you
know, there are just those people out there that can't put a positive spin
on anything they say. Ignore those posts. They do you (and me) no good.
But think about staying.

Gretchen, I just want to say that I appreciated your post. I agree that
sometimes we need to get our answers from doctors and medical staff.
Sometimes we reach out in the wrong direction. I took your comments as
they were written I think, and I am personally glad that your medical staff
care enough to walk along with you on your journey. It shows their
professional care and concern and that it is not all about money. It is a
scary journey sometimes, this wls, and we do need each other, but we also
need to remember that we pay a huge premium to have these medical people
work on us, and it is ok to seek answers from them as well. Sometimes
first. Take care. Patricia P.

To Beverly,Hey Beverly, just read your post on Q & A about leaving the
site. I have been off line for a couple of days and am clueless as to what
took place, but I am truly sorry. I had VSG 10-25-07 and try to spend most
of my time on the VSG forum, but I look at all the Q & A's and answer
all that I can answer knowledgeably. I do this to pay back a little for
all the help I have received form Obesity Help.com. I don't answer lap
band questions because I know very little about LB. I do read all
responses and for the most part the answers seem helpful and upbeat. I do
notice that it is the same people who seem to respond to Q & A. I
think those of us who answer regularly may get a little tired and stale
from time to time. We need new blood to take our places. I have
encouraged people on the VSG to start answering Q & A's and I believe a
few have done so. I understand you are going to have RNY on 3-25. That is
great. Please don't leave OH. Go to the RNY forum. Maybe you will feel
more at home there. I haven't spent much time there since I had my VSG,
but they were wonderful answering my questions prior to surgery. I know I
couldn't do without my daily shot of VSG forum. I don't know what happened
but I feel terrible about it. I KNOW there are some wonderful people on OH
so go to them and ignore the sad and angry ones. (((((((Hugs))))) Keep me
posted on your surgery! Pat
