Question:
what can you drink as well as water
Does anyone know if you can drink the protein drink by SpecialK? It is really good. Not sure if I should stop drinking it now, to prepare for my February 8th surgery date. — teresasmiles (posted on January 14, 2008)

It's not very high in protein and won't keep you filled that long. My
doctor always said to only have something that has more protein than carbs.
A motto I live by. Good Luck with your surgery. There are plenty of
better drinks out there. I love WorldWide Protein drinks from Vitamin
Shoppe, lots of protein and low carbs and I get my chocolate fix

Good luck on your surgery. I drink it and my doctor said ok, but I use
sugar free add in like kool-aid, lemon tea, Protein is very important, make
sure use your protein mix, you learn different tricks to help with the
taste. It would be nice if they made one with no taste. haha. I wish you
well

You have to read the labels of everything you eat and drink. For drinks
that purport to offer any sort of protein, we use a standard that you
should get at least 8 times the protein grams for each gram of carb. Most
of the Special K products, even the alleged high protein ones, are really
cheap marketing ploys that don't offer appropriate bariatric nutrition.

Everyone else is correct. The protein isn't very high in the Special K
drink. I've thought about them as well. You really gotta read the labels in
EVERYTHING. I had a list of stuff I was curious about and I went to the
store for about 3 hours and looked at all the labels. I wrote some things
down and made a mental note of others. Grocery shopping does become easier.
You really want to watch the sugar amounts and protein amounts. Good luck!
Have you seen a nutritionist yet? I saw one for the first year through the
hospital that I had RNY but I also found another through my gym. Get
creative! You have to be in control of your health!

i use either the bottle one, or the powder to carry in my purse for work.

The premixed waters have sugar in them but the mixes don't. For example
the pink lemonade mix has 30 calories, 6 g of carbs, 5 of them from fiber,
and 5 g of protein.
While that is not a lot of protein, crystal light and the other drink mixes
have no protein. I figure if I am going to use a water mix, I might as
well get some protein.

Try Unjury, it taste great and is high in Protien (28 Grams with 8 Oz of
skim milk). www.unjury.com. They offer you a 15% discount if you have a
standing order to ship every month and you can chage the items and the
quanity. Protien is not a problem before and is required after surgery.
Find one you love now.

I had surgery on 12/26 and started drinking the special K water after
surgery. I just mostly do it for the taste. I love propel also. Good luck
to you, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I agree with what everyone else has posted. I drink the Special K water,
propel and crystal light - one of each every day - it makes it easier to
get the water in.!!

I am defiantly having problems getting my protein in post surgery. My
surgeon has no problem with me drinking the special K drinks but like the
other say the aren't high in protein and they have some calories in the
them. I did find a pink lemon aide protein water mix made by special k that
has no sugar and 30 calories (I am trying to try find my replacement for my
daily Mt Diew that I no longer can have). It is pretty tasty and it adds to
my protein intake. I also have to complete my protein intake with the GNC
pro performance 100% Whey Protein powdered drink mix. I tried it with the
recommended ice cold water and it was pretty much disgusting. Then I tried
it with my additional fat free skim milk dose and it was tolerable it
tasted like sorted of like a slim fast shake ( I opted for the strawberry
flavor). I am hoping once progress more on a regular diet I will not need
this, but until then. I am three weeks and 4 days out on phase 3. I was
only getting about 25 to 30 grams of protein before I found the lemonade
and started on the protein powder. I have to say I was feeling pretty weak.
Now I am feeling alot better.

I've tried the Special K water and it's good and i'm also drinking Crystal
Light. Have you seen the "New" Slim Fast Protein drink and
Protein Bars. I read the ingredients and it looks like it would be
approved. I go to the Dr. today and i will ask about that too.
