Question:
Has anyone had surgery with Dr. Charles Morton III or Dr. Albert Spaw of TN?
I am considering lapband surgery and have a consultation withe Baptist Hospital Metabolic Surgery Center. The two doctors that I have narrowed my list down to are Dr. Spaw and Dr. Morton. Has anyone had experience with them that can help me decide who to choose? — april41902 (posted on January 10, 2008)

Yes. I had Lap Banding with Dr. Morton October 5, 2004 (my new birthday).
I have had nothing but great results and never ending support from the doc
and his staff. I was really impressed by the staff cuz they are the ones
you will deal with most. From the first day I walked in to check it out to
present they are always available for questions and help. I had talked to
another doctor and the whole thing was ugly.

I had lapband surgery with Dr. Morton on July 3, 2007! He and his nurse
Heather are awesome.....the office staff has been great too. They are very
helpful and always willing to help. Let me know if I can be of any other
help.

I am a patient of Dr. Spaw. I had my surgery on 3-27-07, and I have had the
best care from Dr. Spaw. The whole office staff is wonderful and always
answereds by questions and calls. Dr. Spaw is very knowledgable in the
field of bariatric surgery, and also so compassionate. He is devoted to
helping people like myself who felt that they tried everything to lose
weight and had not ever succeded. Dr. Spaw was very informative, he
explained the procedure but also stressed what was expected of me. I can
not praise him enough.

Dr. Spaw had been recommended to me. I think he is probably pretty good.
It was between him and another physician in Nashville. I however chose a
different physician for reasons that had nothing to do with the quaility of
the physician. I just felt Dr. Spaw would not be hard enough on me. But I
think he is probably an awesome physician.

I had my WLS at Centennial Bariatric Center. I went to several different
seminiar and after hearing Dr. Hugh Houston at Centennial , I chose to
drive 2 1/2 hours from my home for my surgery . Bariatric surgery was a
choice he made in medical school and has done nothing else. I also know he
has advanced laparoscopic surgery training. He is absolutely gifted and
his staff is wonderful. RNY was my choice for surgery and my journey has
been amazing. He always personally returns all phone calls and sometimes
even answers the phone himself. I think what surprised me the most is that
other than your fills for the lapbands, the follow up office visits are
included with your initial surgical charge. That is not common in most
places. The Centennial Bariatric Program is wonderful. I work in a
hospital and could not believe the way you were treated and how clean
faciility was. I know you were asking about Baptist but my experience with
Dr. Houston and Centennial was something I wanted to share.

I know of several who have used Dr. Spaw and he did the duodenal switch on
them. I would suggest you check out that surgery too. Go to the DS forum
here on OH and also go to duodenalswitch.com. Best of luck.
