It is highly unlikely you will be able to get insurance anyplace other than
through work. I am a life insurance agent. Once you have had a surgical
or treatment recommendation from a medical professional, most companies
will not issue a policy until the treatment is completed. The company I
work for will consider an application for life insurance 1 year after the
surgery. Check with your employer and see if you can up your coverage
through your job.

here is a link for carnie wilson site with a place to get info on life
insurance. I don't know his name, but someone from her personal group came
and spoke at our support group about a year ago on this topic.

I'd suggest checking with your employer. Usually workplace insurance is
done at as a group so you don't have to worry about not being approved.
Whatever you do, make sure that you read read read the small print.
When my father died, we discovered that his auto insurance (GEICO) had a
$5000 death benefit--I'm not sure whether this is limited to automobile
related death, but there was no physical or medical review to be eligible.
Geico offers life insurance but for the regular kind, they have a pretty
detailed screening.
