Hi Markisha, dont buy baby food. It takes like crap and more than anything you wont like it. When you get home from having the surgery make up a small bowl of instant mashed potatoes with salt and pepper in them, for added flavor melt in a slice of cheese. Instant mashed potatoes are GREAT because you can keep adding water to them to make them runny. Also potted meat is good, unsweetened applesauce, refried beans in the can can also be watered down and again add a slice of cheese to the beans. CONGRATULATIONS on your surgery date. Hugs Mickey...........

Well I couldn't eat anything for 2 weeks. It was all liquids while everything was healing. If you are allowed soft foods then by all means prepare what the previous person told you. No breads, no rice, no nothing that may get stuck or you will pay dearly for it. If your 14 yr old can prepare small meals, allow her to do that for your youngest so you don't have the temptation to nibble. Soon you will be able to eat most anything and will be able to do so in small amounts. I think that the first two weeks after surgery is horrible, so good luck. Diane

I was on a full liquid diet before and after surgery (a total of 4 weeks - two before and two after). Sugar Free pudding, sugar free yogart, sugar free popsicles and fudge pops. Broth (chicken, beef or veggie), but the best for me was the low sodium chicken noodle, strained out the noodles and chicken, has a bit more fat and tastes WAY better!! Get some different protein sources (in the beginning, it's hard) but find a few options as your tastebuds can change after surgery. Buy all of your vitamin supplements in a chewable or liquid form as you will be taking those the first 3-4 weeks or longer (depending on your doc). Do whatever you can before surgery to prepare mentally and physically. I had a massage and facial, a mani/pedi/eyebrow wax. I did all of the laundry in the house. Had the house keeper come when I was in the hospital so I came home to a clean house. You will not be able to lift anything over 5 then 10lbs for a while. Have help - husband, neighboor, friend, etc. to help with things around the house - laundry, dishes, etc. Mentally, start making lifestyle changes now and the easier it will be after surgery. I still make meals for my family and still am able to get everyone out the door when they are supposed to be. Good luck!

Congrats, I myself bought baby food, mostly meat because of the protein, and I thought they tasted pretty good. Only you will know what you like. My surgery was 2 months ago, and everthing I've tried has tasted the same as before surgery. But everyone is different. Also, purchase a mini chopper/blender. Its easier than a big blender, and pretty cheap( about $10 at walmart,Kmart, etc.) Also, bring chapstick to the hospital, I didnt know it and really wish i would've, The lips get really dry. Good luck on your journey!

Your surgeon's office should give info on what you will be eating after surgery. I was 2 weeks on full liguids and 2 weeks on mushies. (are you having gastric bypass or band?) I used protein shakes and skim milk. I used protein soups. I was told to get 60-80 grams of protein a day and there was no way that could happen without shakes or soups. My portions were 3, 1oz cups, 3 times a day and lots of water. I also had my vitamins waiting for me at home. I use the Bariatric Advantage for most of my vitamins. I like chewables the best. Here's a website that has a ton of stuff for us post op. www.C2LINFO.com You can even call their store to ask questions and they will help you! Good luck!

I was on full liquids until week 3 (after surgery). Check with your doctor and / or nutritionist on their food recommendations. However, I bought sugar free jello, sugar free yougart, no sugar added apple sauce, sugar free popsicles, grits (make then very runny) and chicken or beef broth. I would sip the broth from chicken noodle soup (drain off the chicken and noodles). If you mix your protein powder w/ milk, make sure that you use skim milk. I would gag every time I tried to drink the protein powder w/ milk. Therefore, I purchased the liquid protein bullets (42 grams per tube). GOOD LUCK !!!!

Hi again Markisha, everyone thinks food is such a big issue for when you come home. It really is not. We are such food crazy and concerned people. Applesauce, cottage cheese, milk, cheese, soups and perhaps a protein drink you may like now, but that may change after surgery. You just have to guess. I was determined to get my protein from foods, and I did that. I used my food processor to grind up meats and ate them that way. Tuna, eggs, ham or beef, all the same for me. For surgery, you need a bag packed with things you will need in the hospital. I bought baby wipes and took a wooden/plastic spoon for wiping myself. You can't reach like you can now, and the spoon is an entender, and the wet wipes catch more for you. The nurses thought I was nuts, but I cleaned myself and I am glad for that. I also brought stuff to shower, my own pillow and a colored blanket so my room didn't look all white. I also had my husband bring a small cd player and some favorite cds for listening. They soothed my soul. My Bible for reading, and my husband which was my best advocate. Everyone needs an advocate to stand by you. Be sure you have one. Hope this helps. Take care. Patricia P.

You will have an IV so a gown and housecoat does not work too well. House slippers for walking. I was lucky and the room had a fan but I would suggest checking with the hospital or take a small one. Trashy tabloids because you really can't concentrate on a book. You have periods of being awake and sleeping from the meds. Some soap and shampoo. Toothbrush and toothpaste. Some makeup might make you feel better. Chapstick or lipstick is really needed. My lips chapped terribly. Your C-pat machine if you use one. An I-pod is great too. My prayers are with you. You will do fine.

I am still in "getting the approval process", but already I have seen the dietician 3 times. I have the high protein diet I will be following for 2 weeks before surgery-if I get approved, and a whole book Called "Eating Wisely after Gastric Bypass Surgery. No one has given you any information?? I find that scary.

Follow your doctors recommendations to the letter, general guidlines are clear liquids for two weeks, then soft solids for two more then gradually introducing solids , chewed to mush, I mean chew the living daylights out of it, no liquids with meals. I read one post to you about mashed potatoes , refried beans, cheese,,....that is what got us where we were in need for surgery in the first place. Leave high carbs along or you will dumb if you are a gastric bypass patient, if your a band you will not dumb by you will not lose as much. If you are a RNY make sure you have LOW CARB , SUGAR FREE jello, protein drinks , fat free soups broths etc in your cabinets at home so that you will not have to shop afterwards. You will get a hundred different answers online everyone has a different idea, every Doctor will give you a similar but different diet protocal as well. Good luck and God Bless you.
