Question:
Has anyone use Nutrisystem after WLS

I'm about to have surgery Jan 16th. I wonder once I can start to eat solid foods, how well the Nutrisystem would be for someone who had WLS. The foods are already prepare, all you have to do is heat it up and add salad to it.    — barfiep01 (posted on December 27, 2006)

I would follow your Doctors protocol. I think NutriSystems food would have too much sugar and carbs and the portion size would be way to big. Good luck with your surgery...Lorelei

If it were me, I'd have the surgery and work with that tool first. You may be surprised at the results and not even think about Nutrisystem again!! Good luck!

I have looked at the Nutrisystem program before I had my surgery. It has things you shouldn't be eating and not enough proteins in the large amounts.

Congrats on your surgery date. I'm 8 weeks out and my taste buds have changed dramatically, to say the least. The other writers are right.Just use your tool.Using Nutrisysytem would be like using hitting a nail with pliars, after you've already done the job with a reliabe hammer.Portions are WAy Way to big. Save that money and invest in protein, vitamins and the like. Best of luck to ya.

I was on Nutri-System several years back -- before WLS. It seems to me that it would not meet the requirements as set by my WLS nutritionist. Also, you need to teach yourself how to eat in the real world. Using Nutri-System would make that difficult.

First of all, your stomach will only hold about the volume of an egg right at first when you begin to eat solid foods. You can't fit a Nutrisystem meal into that. Secondly, you will need to eat frequently which doesn't fit into the Nutrisystem plan. Thirdly, you must concentrate almost solely on proteins in the beginning. You will find that you will not have a use for Nutrisystem until about a year or two after your surgery if you ever do, and then only to maintain the weight loss you have acheived and then also only after your pouch expands a little. You loose weight with this surgery by portion control mostly. "Normal" servings simply will not fit into your pouch. Then additionally, you will probably find yourself unable to tolerate sweets like you used to. It all changes. You will not need Nutrisystem until years later if you even need it at all. Best of luck to you. I wish you great success and increasing health. Carla

the purpose of surgery is so you don't have to use the other diet plans and because they haven't worked. the portions will be too big and the protein too low like the others said and another big issue is the cost. nutrisystem is very expensive! i have a good friend that had gbs last year and the best quick things she found was the southbeach line meals. the wraps are really good and easy to prepare. hope this helps

Fisrt I want to say congratulations to those that reached and maintained goal. This note is for those that are are a year or more out and still struggling. Do not give up on reaching your goal. WLS gave us a tool to use and I am going to use mine. I am using Nutrisystem. The portions are small and it is low glycemic. To be WLS compliant, you need to customize your order. The NS website gives the nutritional information for all of their meals and snacks. Most of the meals are low carb. There are a couple with the count higher than I would choose. I pick the higher protein, lower carb selecions. I don't order the oatmeal or meal replacement bars. I have 54 more pounds to lose (was 60 but I am losing thanks to NS). Some people are opposed to any dieting after WLS but the first thing my doctor gave me after my WLS was a diet plan to follow. It really is much like the NS plan, low glycemic and 5-6 small meals per day. I have 3 small meals and 2-3 snacks per day (raw vegetables, shakes, NS high protein pretzels, etc). I would not eliminate simply because it is a diet plan when we have been told that we need to follow a diet plan to lose and maintain our weight loss.
