Question:
How about eating air-popped popcorn?
I'm 5 months post op and can now tolerate almost everything! I'm hungry more often now and popcorn fills me quickly. Has anyone out there have comments or information? — zoeysgrami (posted on December 7, 2006)

Be careful of "Munchie" foods. They will get you. If you can
crunch it in your hand, don't put it in your mouth....I heard that at an
Obesity Help conference. Early on, it satisfies the chewing effect you long
for. It may be the need to chew something of substance you like more than
the snack. Moderation is the key!

I was told to avoid popcorn completely.

It is so weird how our surgeons can have such different guidelines. In one
of our support groups they said that popcorn is a good snack. I love it but
find that I can actually eat a lot of it because it crunches up into
practically nothing. Best wishes to you!

I waas told to avoid simple carbs, which include popcorn (corn). Corn is
also high in sugar. It is okay as an occassional snack, but should not be a
daily occurrence.

I was told to avoid it altogether because the kernels can block the stoma
opening. Just like when you get kernels caught in your teeth. My nurse
said she has seen the surgeon have to go in and remove the kernels. I must
confess I caved one time at the movie theater and snitched some of my
hubbies but I was very careful to spit the kernels out in a napkin. A
little more work but less worry!

Popcorn YUMMY, if pills you take are larger than popcorn kernels then
popcorn should be OK? CHEW WELL! Initially you cant eat hardly anything but
things stretch over time

Why not? I'm figuring this IS one of your meals, not IN ADDITION to one of
your meals, of course?
