I had surgery on January 17, 2006, and I love my discount card. On one side it states Medical Alert This cardholder has had a Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, a 30 ml stomach pouch connected to a 90 to 150 cm jejunal Roux limb. The remnant stomach and duodenum still remain and are connected to the distal portion of the Roux limb. Please insert NG tubes with caution. It states Daniel J. Gagne, MD; Pavlos Papasavas, MD' 412-235-5900. Now on the opposite side of the card it states the following: SPECIAL DIET REQUEST This cardholder has had gastric surgery, which has reduced his/her stomach capacity to less than 3 ounces. Please allow him/her to order a smaller portion, pay a reduced price or make a selection from the children's menu. Thank you for your cooperation. Daniel J. Gagne, MD; Pavlos Papasavas, MD The Western Pennsylvania Hospital. I have eaten at Ponderosa, Golden Corral, Eat N' Park, and Denny's. I was charged for a child's meal and I did not even finish that. All I have to do is show the card and I get a discount. I have a family and we still enjoy eating out even though my lifestyle for food has changed. I eat healthier now. A lot of the restaurants are willing to work with you when you request the way an item is made. When I do go out, I use a small saucer plate that you would use under your coffee/tea cup. It does not affect me to see others eating a lot of food. I just remember this eat the exact amount I am suppose to and I will feel and look great.

So Jamie, did you get this card from your surgeon or do you know how other RNY patients can get one, I'm in Carson City, NV

I got this card from my nutritionist the day I was getting released from the hospital after my surgery on January 17, 2006. You may want to ask your nutritionist or doctor for the card.

Everyone, just keep in mind that restaurants are not obligated to honor these cards. Personally, I have never used anything to get a discount on my food. Both my husband and I have had RNY and all we do is eat an appetizer or we bring our left overs home and have them for lunches and dinners afterwards.

You should have gotten one from your surgeon or medical staff; it allows you to buy your restaurant meals at a lower price, since your amount eaten will be small. They bring you less food too. Check OH store for extra cards.
