I am 4 months post-op and i am having a hard time getting enough protein and my hir is dwindiling away and I am hoping the protein will help. Can anyone help with recomending one?    — CHRISTY M. (posted on January 8, 2004)

i use the Carb Solutions from Walmart. It is about eight bucks a can and taste pretty decent in the blender with a couple of ice chips. i also bought some Elite Protein powder from Susan Maria at bariatriceating.com. it just shakes up is tastes yummy. About eighteen bucks for 35 servings.

I use designer whey, has a nice taste, smooth texture. I have even had them with water instead of milk lately to cut my caories a bit. I really like the vanilla, the choclate is good too, a mild not too strong taste.

I really like Nectar protein drinks, they are not thick, almost like juice. I also drink the Designer Whey unflavored mixed with 12oz of SF Koolaid....very yummy!!

I like Rocomojo. It's a ground, roasted soy bean product sold as a coffee substitute, so it's a warm drink. I don't think it tastes much like coffee, but as long as I think of it as just another hot drink in the coffee/tea category, I'm fine with how it tastes. It's a little strong made as directed, so I use one scoop to 20 ounces of water, rather than the recommended 16 ounces. If I want it to taste more like coffee, I'll add a teaspoon of instant decaf coffee, or s/f coffee-flavored syrup, but I usually drink it as brewed with a little Splenda. You can get it online at rocomojo.com, and other retailers. It has 26 grams of protein per scoop, no sugar, fat or carbs.

I have used Proscore 100 Chocolate and find it is the best tasting. two scoops in a blender with a few ice cubes and cold water and you get a thick shake with 30 gm protein, low in carb and low in fat.

It's very nice to know what people's favorites are, but we all have different taste buds, so save yourself time & money and buy samples first. I think you can find the biggest selection at www.Vitalady.com.

I use Zero Carb Vanilla Isopure. 2 scoops mixed with 1 cup of Fat Free Lactaid with Soy Protein and 1 teaspoon of Fat Free Nestle Hot Chocolate Mix makes a great shake. I blend it with a hand blender and pour it over a few ice cubes to keep it cold for the time it takes me to drink it. It has 64.5 grams protein, carbs 15.5 and 322.5 calories. Sometimes I add Sugar Free Davinci Amaretto or Irish Cream syrups to boost the flavor, other times I use the Sugar Free Davinci Raspberry flavor instead of hot chocolate mix. This drink tastes nothing like a protein drink and many of those in my group agree.

I only use Unjury from www.unjury.com. It is by far the best I have ever tasted. It looks, tastes and smells just like chocolate milk. They also have vanilla and unflavored. I put the unflavored in broth and such.

Well, as you can tell from your responses there are as many different opinions as there are taste buds. I personally like the Champion Pure Whey Stack Chocolate. I also like the Nectar flavors. I mix all of mine with water only (or crush in some ice for thickness) as I don't like the way milk foams up in the blender. You can order samples from www.vitalady.com or www.wlssuccess.com and try different flavors to see what fits you. Sandra

For a quick one without having to mix anything try EAS Advantage shakes-the carb control ones they come 4 to a pack-110 calories each, lo carb and 20 grams of protein, or is it 25?? Hmm...anyways, chocolate fudge is my fav, and if you buy at Walmart, much cheaper. The ones you make from scratch are much cheaper but I like the convenience of grab and go

The protein shakes called Pure Protein Chocolate are pretty good. They are in a black and red bottle and they say 100% protein on them. I would definitely make them with milk though other wise they are ucky.292/195/???

I can't stomach thick shakes (chocolate and vanilla). I love the Nectars, especially Strawberry Kiwi...I drink 2 a day of Strawberry Kiwi...it's so good and I can shake it up with water and not worry about a blender. I also like Whey Fruity by Molecular Nutrition. They have a good lemonade flavor. It mixes up like lemonade but looks a little milky. I usually add lemonade to it (Minute Maid has a great lite lemonade or Crystal Light) instead of water and lots of ice and put it in a travel mug or something else so I'm not put off by the milky look of it because it tastes very good. If you do carbs, you might want to add Soy Pro (from Universal Nutrition) to oatmeal or low fat muffin mixes. You can cook with or heat soy protein but not whey (it breaks down under heat) so I add soy pro apple cinnamon protein to oatmeal and I make "zone" type muffins (the recipes are on Zone sites) with strawberry soy pro. All 3 (Nectar, Whey Fruity and SoyPro) have zero carb and are high in protein. I also like ProPlete Mixed Berry Blast from Labrada...but it has 6 carbs and only 20 protein...more carbs and less proteins than the others but a nice break sometimes or add it to other mixes like Isopure Strawberry that I don't like by themselves so I mix it with some other (like cherry or wild berry) and some frozen strawberries, it is very good. I buy most of this stuff from Netrition and I'm not affliated with them in any way. I just find they have the greatest selection of product and deliver FAST and cheaply. No matter what you buy is 4.95 UPS and you usually get it within the week. They also give you "goodies" over a certain amount and I love their shaker cups.
