Question:
WOULD IT BE STAPLELINE DISRUPTION OR STRETCHING

IM 3 MONTHS POST OP AND FOR LAST TWO WEEKS IT SEEMS I CAN EAT MORE AT ONE SETTING A WHOLE SANDWHICH WHEN IT WAS ONLY A HALF BEFORE, I ALSO HAVE A SORE FEELING NOW AFTER I EAT ON MY LEFT SIDE OF BELLY BUTTON. HOW DO YOU KNOW? WHAT KIND OF TESTS DOES THE DOC DO? IF ITS DISRUPTION, OR STRETCHING, I DO WORK MORE AROUND HOUSE NOW WHERE I FEEL BETTER, BUT I GAINED 3 LBS AND IM WORRIED. IM DOWN 50LBS, IM A LIGHTWIEGHT SO I ASSUMED MY WIEGHT LOSS IS NORMAL. I HEARD OF HONEYMOON PERIOD, DONT UNDERSTAND IT, I USED TO GET SO FULL AFTER 3 BITES OF A SANDWHICH, WHAT HAPPENED? THANKS AHEAD OF TIME I REALLY APPRECIATE THIS WEB SITE. ANGIE MATHEWS    — ANGIE M. (posted on August 9, 2002)

Hi Angie, not sure I can answer all your concerns. I am considered a lightweight too and I think that 50 pounds at 3 months is about where I was-by the way, at 6 months, I am at 72. Its not unusual to gain a few pounds one day and lose it and more a few days later. That has occured to me a few times-scared the heck out of me at first, but I think its the bodies way of adjusting to this loss and new way of feeding it. You will notice that as time progresses, you will be able to eat more-our new tummies do stretch a little. But keep in mind that just because we can eat more does not mean we should always do so. I was told that the pouch is just 2-3 oz and eventually will stretch to 5 or 6 ounces, so I ask, well then, how can I fit an 8 oz Lean Cuisine in there? My surgeon told me that the food is probably backing up into the esophagus, even tho I don't feel it. So now, I try to eat a little less. At 6 months I could probably eat a whole sandwich but I only eat a 1/2. Small frequent meals are better for you anyways. I'm not sure what the sore feeling is as I haven't experienced it. Do you know if you are transected? If so, then you can't have a SLD...

I have this exact same thing going on. I had a Micro-pouch surgery on 5/9/02 and I was told that these types NEVER stretch because the pouch is so small. I have lost 50 if I don't include the 4 I have put back on. I also would like some assurances that this is only temporary. I don't think having lost this much only to put it back on is worth all the hassle I went through. I have been watching what I eat, but am getting more and more hungry. I certainly hope that this TOOL has not lived out it's life expectancy at only three months out!!! Yes, I can eat a whole sandwhich too, although I usually try not to because of the bread being a no,no.
