Question:
Am I eating enough?

I am only able to eat about 6 oz. aday and drink about 24-32oz.I am only eating about 6oz a day and drinking about 24-32oz a day, any more than that and I get sick. I have already lost 1/3 of the weight I need to and I am only one month post-op. I have lost 50 pounds of the 147 I need to. I know I am not getting enough protien or water but if I do much more I get sick.    — MARK N. (posted on February 5, 2001)

Mark, Hi! No, that really doesn't sound like enough to sustain anyone let alone a man. And 50 pounds is quite a bit to lose in one month! I really think it's time for you to see your surgeon. Take care of yourself and update us when you can! Candace

Mark, first of all you need to make your protein drink and just sip at it.. sounds like your eating too fast.. it might seem slow to you but it must be faster then your stomach will allow as for the water ..get the bottled water with a sipper top and sip all day and put it near your bed and sip on it at night.. I don't know what your diet is but more then likely soft eat campbells soups..the warmth in your stomach will feel good My Doctor said that I would not die of lack of eating so I was not to worry about not eating enough as as for your weight loss.. it does seem like alot but then not a shocking amount.. Relax.... when is your Doctors appt? keep eating small meals thru out the day even if your not hungry do it by time not hunger( because at first I was never hungry) good luck in your new life Kathy

Wow! You've gotta bring that water intake up! We are SO prone to kidney stones, so don't tease 'em! You are sipping? Not trying to guzzle, right? The food thing doesn't scare me too much as long as you're getting in good protein supplement (not Ensure or CIB+milk) and plenty of calcium citrate + D. You can go for awhile with just your protein & vites, but if you ARE pacing yourself nicely, then you'll need to be seen. Actually, we were allowed 6 one oz meals, so your 6 oz seems right to me. But then again, we do 120g of protein supplement, too! And a full complement of vites, as well. Calorie intake is not as important as nutritional intake and it's perfectly acceptable for you to get your nutrition on board with as few calories as possible, right now. Your wt loss seems about typical for a man, to me, not frightening.
