Question:
HELP!!! PRE-OP JITTERS?
OK, call me NUTS!!! My surgery is 19 days away and all of a sudden...BOOM...I am questioning the type of surgery I am having. My surgeon has suggested what he has called Proximal Gastric Bypass-VBG. This is not the only surgery he does and he has reviewed my diet history, my life-style, my age...etc. and feels this is the best surgery for me. (I trust his choice.) Now here is the problem...maybe pre-ops shouldn't read the POSTS because after reading several posts about VBG failure in the archives I am seriously depressed...I dont want to go through this and FAIL!!! I have read about how VBG is a dieting tool and exercising is so important. If I had EVER been succesful at dieting and exercising would I be at this point in my life, about to have surgery? So what I am asking is for people who have had successful VBG to please EMAIL ME LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW...I am in serious need of some positive reading material! Maybe its just the Pre-surgery jitters...I hope so!!! (((((hugs))))) — ginariso (posted on April 5, 2000)

Gina,
While I didn't have the VBG, I did have concerns about my surgery
from things I read here on the site. I took my concerns to
my surgeon (who I trusted completely) and he addressed each
of them quite to my satisfaction and comfort! I suggest you
print the articles that have you concerned and bring them in
for your Dr. to check out. He should be able to address your
concerns and help you feel comfortable. If he does the other types of
surgery,
he must have reasons to believe the VBG is best for you. Once he
explains his reasoning, you will feel better! Good Luck!
