Question:
Anyone with increased mood swings?
I never had mood swings, but since surgery 8/2/2010 I find that I fly off the handle easily. Also cry over silly things. — pooters927 (posted on August 15, 2010)

Yes, I have experience being a real B with a a capital B if you get my
drift. It is because your hormons change some with weightloss.

hi! I think the other poster is correct, however, mood swings from
hormones occur after a fair amount of weight has been lost..ie 50 + lbs.
Our hormones are stored in our fat cells and when we lose fat, they release
them back into our systems. This can cause a number of things to happen,
including menopausal women to start menstruation again, or become pregnant.
So do take csre on that point. You mood swings i would associate more with
the mourning of food..we all go thru it in one form or another. But if it
keeps up or gets worse, seek help from your clinic or pcp. Best of luck to
you on your journey! hugs n God bless, Kim

I had the same problem. It subsided a bit when I was about 9mo out.

Mary Ellen and Kim are both correct. When we are very obese, hormone
production can be surpressed or altered. You are in the process of
adjusting back to normal. It will all balance out. Ask your doc about
taking a mild antidepressant for a while...it might help. Your whole life
is changing, not just your body. How you interface with people and how
they react to you. It's a happy journey you are on...enjoy the ride!

I am so happy that you posted this. I thought it was just me. I noticed the
smallest things just annoy me so bad, and I have been trying to avoid
people as much as possible, as it seems like the smallest things get on my
nerves and I snap at everyone. I did tried a few anti-depressants and an
anti-anxiety (Klonopin) the 2 together help some, I wish that it worked
better. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So glad to see your post. I had lap band Jan 5, 2010. I now have proudly
lost 78 lbs.. Now, my mood swings are out of the roof some days. I today
have taken a saliva hormone test to send to the lab. I felt the weight loss
had something to do with it. So glad to see your post and the many answers.
Thank you !

i am so glad to see this question and all the excellent answers. I am 8
months and 70 pounds out and my emotions seem to be a little haywire
sometimes. It is so important to keep in mind that this is expected and
normal. Thank you all.
