Information on how to get approved for plastic surgery after gastric sleeve

I had gastric sleeve in December 2008 and i have alot of extra skin on my stomach. My insurance is blue cross blue shield federal and they supposedly pay for a pani if needed. Please help.    — nursemickey808 (posted on March 13, 2010)

I as told to document frequently anything you need to buy to help avoid skin infections or skin irritations from the area of the folds of skin. Also, take pictures of the infections and irritations, see your doctor and get prescription creams, etc. to treat them. Be sure your doctor makes chart notes regarding these irritations/infections. Unfortunately, with my insurance anyway, although I did all that, I was able to keep the infections and irritations under control (my surgeon said I stayed "too clean" - but I wasn't going to go around "smelly"), so they wouldn't pay. My insurance is Group Health, and they are pretty "stingy" in allowing other procedures. I know several, though, who have had no problem as long as they followed these steps. Best of luck.
