Question:
Does medicare in Indiana pay for plastic surgery after losing 60-70 pounds?
I have had total knee replacements and still have trouble with pain. I have lost around 65-70 pounds since my last surgery and now am faced with saggy, heavy htighs, hips. Obviously, there's other places; however, my main concern is my thighs due to my knee conditions. Do you think medicare would pay for the surgery and do you know of any doctors in the Indianapolis, IN area who could talk to me or will help me that accepts Medicare? I have no idea of how to get started because I really don't know of a recommended doctor to even begin to investigate this. Please help! Thank you bunches. — MarilynReganC (posted on March 11, 2010)

Medicare does not pay for any type of plastic surgery unless you can get a
doctor to say that the procedure is to ease a serious health condition. It
might be possible with your knees. Another problem is finding a plastic
surgeon who will accept medicare. Your best bet is to call several
doctor's offices, explain your situation and ask if the doctor accepts
Medicare. If so, make an appointment and see if he is willing to file with
Medicare for the procedure that you want. Good luck to you! And huge
congrats you your weight loss! I know you will feel better!
