Question:
Energy

Hi, I am 6 months out, below my goal, I have lost 105 lbs. I am wondering when this new found energy is supposed to kick in, I am still waiting for energy. I am 58 years old, and I have been very sick with throwing up a lot, I do believe it is getting better, and yes, my Dr. knows about all of these issues. Does anyone have a comment about getting energy? BTW I do walk daily some days 30 minutes and other days 45 minutes.    — FSUMom (posted on February 17, 2010)

My advise being close to your age and went through the same lack of energy, B12 shots. I take two sublingual every day but another WLS person recommended the shots to me and I can tell you they work! I contacted my surgeon and she called in the prescription and I take a shot every two weeks. I can tell if I wait longer, it feels like I am exhausted. You may want to talk to your Dr.

You mention vomiting a lot... is this affecting your protein intake? I've heard that too little protein can affect energy levels.

Shelly, Kathie and Greg are both on the right track. No protein, no energy. You will exhaust yourself by exercising without enough protein to rebuild. Amino Acids are the building blocks of the body. B-12 isn't just a good idea, it's right up there with air and water for a GBS patient. Don't get enough and you have no energy and long enough with out it could lead to complications and death. It wasn't just a suggestion that we have to take the supplements and vitamins, it is a life or death matter. If you are a woman, you must take iron and calcium too. You cannot absorb them as well now, so it's all the more crucial, and BTW, you have to take them at separate times, or they won't do you much good. Hang in there and I would strongly advise going back and taking a new, serious look at the material they gave you to study, then research all you can on the internet. It would even be a good idea to take some biological nutrition coursed at your local college. I learned a long time ago that you can't depend on your doctor to research things. YOU have your own best interests at stake, he doesn't always.
