Question:
I have been seeing on tv about people gainging weight back after having the lap

band, Has anyone else heard this and if so is this all types of bands or just certain ones? I know there has to a change in your eating habits, if you strayed way off I can understand a gain but when you get to your goal and no longer need fills do you start gaining?    — T R. It's a constant battle just like before the band. The band just makes it a little easier.

I haven't seen these commercials, but I'm glad to hear that the other side of the band--that it is not only minimally "invasive" but minimally "assistive"--is getting out there. It is the surgical method that depends most heavily on willpower. Because it is so advertising-driven, many of us who formerly would have gone for the RNY or even the duodenal switch (as I did, happily) have been lulled into going for one of the bands instead. The band is just an assisted diet. If I had been so good at dieting, I wouldn't have needed surgery at all, and I'm not surprised to see that that's true for others as well.

There were people who should have not had the lap in the first place. I don't know as if they are the failure of wieght regain or the surgeon, because they ask you what surgery do you want? Then move forward. Alot of people should have been not having lap bands. They wanted what sounded to good to be true (if not appropriate). Sorry but if the patient chose it, however it was not the best option rather than what was best, there you go, there is the explination. You can eat pass all of the wls types. Your body will learn to reajust to the surgery and try to obtain it's desired calories. It happens. People that Overeat and don't have other needs for malabsorbtion are better candidates for this surgery. It bothers me to see so many lap banders go to the RNY when that is what they should have had in the first place.

WLS is not a silver bullet only a tool. You still have to work after the surgery.
