Question:
It's been nine months and I've started having severe stomach cramping after eating...
it's worse on the left side. In fact, I can't lay on the left side - the pain gets much worse. It feels like double-over gas pains, but gas pills don't help...it keeps me up at night. I had the RuenY in March '09 and I have lost all the weight I wanted to lose - over 150 lbs since May of '08. I swim 70 laps every other day, and this pain has really broadsided me. I have no clue what's causing it. It's been about 3 weeks now. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Christina57 — christina57 (posted on January 1, 2010)

Please contact your surgeon! Most of the serious problems that can cause
that involve scar tissue in the abdomen. you could have bowel trying to
kink around adhesions, or be developing an internal herniation. It may not
be anything dangerous but let your surgeon know so that they can explore
what is going on. Kevin

I had the same thing. My doc started conservatively by doing meds. I take
2 prilosec a day and he put me on a liquid med called Carafate. It seems
to have helped. If it hadn't we would have gone to a gallbladder
ultrasound and a scope. When you lose weight really fast you tend to get
gallstones. The first thing I would do is call your surgeon. Not your PCP
because most of them are not trained in what to look for in the RNY
surgery. There are several things this could be. Good luck and keep us
posted.

Christina57 I had a vsg in June 09. At the beginning of Dec. I started
having a severe cramp on my left side also after eating. I called my
surgeon and they acted like it was nothing. Stating it could be this or
that. So, I have been trying everything and will go see a surgeon in my
area. Their is no or little pain if you eat small bites, chew well and not
eat very much. Good luck and let me know what becomes of your
situation.Shannie2

Def contact the doctor.I read that most of the work is done in the left
side and it is healing.
