Question:
Possibility of losing to much weight
I was considered, by my surgeon, to be a light weight going into surgery. At five weeks out of RNY I have already lost 34% of the extra weight. According to my surgeon I am ahead of where he would like me to be. As such he said I will be fighting the rapid weight loss around the six month mark. Has this happened to anybody else and what did you do or how did you keep from losing to much weight? — wearfamily2004 (posted on November 22, 2009)

I wish I had your problem. I'm 8 and a half months out, and have felt that
my weight loss has been really slow, but in reality, it hasn't (I've lost
127 pounds from the very beginning of the process - but only 100 pounds
from the date of my surgery). I know a lot of people who've lost a lot
more, and lost it faster. But, I know a couple of people specifically on
this board, who have lost more than they wanted to.... so you may hear from
them. Maybe they can help you.

Hi! And Congrats on what you've done so far! I had 110 lbs to lose and met
goal in 9.5 months. I have been maintaining for the past 7 months. What I
was told by my nutritionist was to increase my meal size up to 4 ounces(I
was eating 2 ounce meals while losing) and to increase the times of day I
ate..so instead of 3 meals I had 4. I kept losing and now eat 5 meals. I
consume 1300 calories on days I don't work out and 1500 on days I do. Talk
with your nutritionist about it when the time gets closer. It will slow
down when you get close to goal. Good luck to you and God Bless! hugs, kim

If you bump up your calories from 600-800 to 1000, you won't loose to much
weight. That was one of my concerns, but my doctor just said to bump up
calories, whether it is bumping up carbs (that will do it), we still need
carbs and some of us have a tendancy to stay away from them, but we still
need them. I have been at a steady weight for almost 5 yrs now. I had the
rny and have great results. I started at 230 lbs and maintain 136-138 lbs.
So, that is one way to not lose to much, otherwise you will be too thin
and it won't look healthy. I am 5.5 ft tall and I feel like this is a good
weight for me. Considering when I was younger at 110 and 120 lbs, looking
back now, I was too thin. Although I am older now, I don't want to look
too thin. So bump up either your carbs, your calories or your protein.
