Question:
always burping ???
Why am I still burping? Even after 10 months post RNY? The first weeks post I had this problem and it went away but now 9-10 months post it seems to have come back...anyone have this??????? It feels like too much air is in me and I really try to eat slow...but this is even if I don't eat. — kathysews (posted on August 30, 2009)

I was wondering the same thing. I am only 3 weeks post-op but I still have
this problem with anything I eat or drink. I have 2 sisters that had the
same surgery, but by a different surgeon, they denied any problems like I
have. I constantly hear my stomach gurgiling, and finally will burp. I
was hoping it would stop soon.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't really stop. I notice it happens more when I eat
gas producing foods but it still happens if not. Most of the people I know
who've had surgery still burp a bit.

My doctor okayed gas-X. I take one every morning and it helps. Make sure
you are not drinking soda, and not drinking thru a straw.

HI
I have the same issue and have warned my family already. It mostly occurs
if i eat too fast. Your pouch/stomach is not big enough for food and air
that you swallow when eating...a normal stomach is. I would suggest slowing
down when u eat. Also i get the gurgling sounds if i eat something that
really doesnt agree w/ me...for ex if i have even a spoon of ice cream i
will hear go down the whole way...i wont dump but i will cramp and make
those noises...btw I had my surgery on 12/18/08

My RNY was in March 2009. I still find that sometimes my stomach will make
lots of sounds and other times it's pretty silent. I think it may have
something to do with what I eat and also if I eat too fast and get air
mixed in. It ususally only lasts 15-20 mins, but it can be embarassing.

I had the Sleeve and haven't had this problem to the degree you guys are
describing, so please forgive me if my suggestions are already things
you've thought about. My WLS support group leader, a barriatric nurse who
had gastric bypass, said that if you use a straw, you get huge amounts of
air in. She said that if she talks a lot, she gets air in. (So if you're
having a burpfest just shut up?) I have found that if I use a blender on my
protein drinks instead of The Bullet, I get a lot more air. Also, just in
case somebody doesn't already know, DO NOT DRINK CARBONATED BEVERAGES!
EVER! I know this burping thing can be a disconcerting problem...hope this
helps.
