Question:
I am 7 weeks post surgery. I lost 36 lbs. first month and now losing about 6 or 7.
Feeling frustrated. Weight loss has slowed to about 6 or so lbs. per month. Am I having a plateau or is there something wrong? I haven't been able to walk because I had a serious gout attack right after surgery and still struggling with it. Dietician said that isn't a problem because people lose weight the first year even without exercise. I'm so frustrated and afraid I won't lose enough weight. — waterrose1919 (posted on July 24, 2009)

Don't be discouraged. I plateaued at 7 months out at 150 lbs. I am
5'2" and started at 224. I thought that was it for me. So, I accepted
it. Then I gradually dropped to 140. Thought I was stabalizing there. I
was still okay with that as all my comorbities were gone and I felt great.
Plateaued a few more months. Then all of the sudden one day I was loosing
a lb here and there and found my self at one thirty. Long story short this
continued over the nineteen months to where I am now at 119. Your body
really slows down. Drops a little drops. Puts on a couple, drops again
plateaus. Try not to be a slave to the scale. Look in the mirror and see
how you feel and how your clothes fit. Some people don't stableize till 2
years. Then your skin has to adjust making you smaller. Yes it does shrink
and it takes it's dear sweet time. See my profile. Good luck.

Since my surgery on 2 June 2009 I have lost a little over 37 pounds. I have
noticed, like alot of others on the same surgical date, that we have all
slowed a bit in the weight loss BUT we are ALL losing inches. Last week I
did not lose any weight BUT I lost 2.2 inches off my body. This weight did
not "suddenly" appear so it may slow now....be patient.....take
even the smaller steps as successes and rejoice.....rejoice....rejoice.
Keep up your good work !!!!

Well, have no fear. The very first month with surgery and being in the
hospital etc,I lost 25pounds. Since then I have averaged about 5 pounds a
week, It is now 8 weeks out and I am 45 lbs down. So we didn't put it on in
a month and it won't go off in a month. Here is a funny story, after the
pre op and surgery and getting out of the hospital I felt like I should
already be skinny, after all I went through (smile). It then registered
that I have a long way to go of losing 3-5 pounds a week to reach my goal.
That is why I love this site so, everyone is so helpful with their stories,
the good and the bad, it really helps me stay on track!

Man, I wish I could have lost 36 lbs in the first month. I am 3 months out
and have only lost 20lbs. I am now loosing 2 lbs per month.

I totally get that you are frustrated - I had a similar reaction to the
surgery - I dropped 30 lns in about 3 weeks and then hit a big plateau at
4-6 weeks. I then continued to lose an average of 6-7 lbs per week.
Congrats on your loss!!! Can you imagine having to try to lose all that
weight w/o the surgery so quickly??? This rapid weightloss totally blows
my mind. I marvel looking at my shrinking body!

I too feel frustrated....I had surgery on 7/6/09. The fist week I lost
12lbs and then lost 18 by the second week, last week I weighed and had
gained 2 pounds!! This seems impossible since I am eating the same as I
did the fist two weeks!! I am not sure what to think and am trying not to
get discouraged...any suggestions?!?
