first you'll need to verify your benefits and see if bariatric surgery is
covered under BC/BS. They will let you know right away and if you have any
exclusions. If you do have coverage there shouldn't be a problem getting
the labband surgery. I have BC/BS of NY. Do you work for AT&T in
Houston? Who is your doctor? Sorry for so many questions. I see Dr Davis
and they are wonderful to help out for insurance questions.

Hi, I have BCBS of Il PPO plan. I am just getting started with this, but
this is what I've found. Call the customer service number on the back of
your card. They should be able to direct you to the medical policy on the
web site. If you go to www.bcbsil.com/obesity, click on I agree, then
medical policy on surgery on the left of screen you see their requirements.
When I try to access the policy from the way they suggested I get an
error, but this is how my customer service rep told me to get there.
www.bcbsil.com,providers,provider library, medical policies on the left
side of screen, I agree, Type in bariatric surgery in green search box. I
have a printed copy of this policy from a few months ago. On that copy it
says they cover RNY and lap band. All others are considered (I think they
call it) experimental. Stay in touch, we'll compare our experinces.
