Question:
Is thyroid radiation treatment necessary hypothyroid patients before surgery?
I'm a self-pay patient and having my surgery in Mexico with Dr.Kelly-Ramos. — jaepinedo (posted on May 26, 2009)

I have hypothyroid, and no one ever said anything to me about radiation
treatments. They just told me to keep taking my pills, that those were one
of the medications that I could not go off of.

Never heard of that - The only time I had the thyroid radiation is when I
had hyperthyroid & I acturally had 3 radioactive iodine treatments
over a period of 5 years. That was 10 years ago. I am now totally
Hypothyroid and take 1 Synthroid pill per day with the dosage/strength
being increased over the past couple of years.. My surgery was 8/21/07 and
I have lost almost a 100 pounds.

I have hypothyroidism and was diagnosed, and have been on medication, for
about 12 years... my surgeon has said nothing about radiation treatments.
I have been told that I will have to keep taking Synthroid for life even
post op... hope this helps, good luck to you!
