Hi Rebecca... congrats on your surgery. You will have trouble getting all
of your fluids in initially.. I am post RNY (10-31-06). The gas is normal,
unfortunately too. Try simethicone drops or gas x... it works wonderful.
Be sure that you are eating or drinking only what you are supposed to be at
this point.. remember everything is brand new... much like a newborn's
stomach. good luck and, once again, congrats on your road to a healthier
you... Kari

Yes drinking all the water at first is hard -go slow and walking will help
with the gas a lot. Do not drink any carbinated drinks at all. congrats
to a new you

Hi Rebecca - I had lap RNY on 2/11/09, and I had pain for about 2 weeks (my
surgeon said the main reason was that he'd stitched the 2 largest
laproscopic incisions to an underlying muscle to help ensure I don't
develop a hernia later on, and the stitches were pulling). But I can tell
you that I'm still finding it a challenge to get all my fluids and my
protein in. I'm technically allowed soft/blended foods now, but I'm
primarily relying on protein shakes to try to get as much as I need cause
I'm just not able to consume it any other way. I fall short every day on
both fluid and protein, but it also gets a little easier every day. I've
talked to nutritionist and she reassured me that it's a progression, and
taking it slowly is the best way to go. Good luck!

Drinking 64 oz of water is something you are supposed to work towards or
aim for. On top of that it is only a suggested amount to stay hydrated...If
your urine is dark or cloudy you need to drink! If you are running clear
or light yellow you are fine! Neon yellow is vitamins and you want to try
to clear that up after a few hours...I take vits all day long and always
have neon yellow I am trying to clear up....I go by color of urine more
than trying to keep exact count of glasses of water...but I do drink water
all day long and it can be hard even years post op...Just do your best and
try to drink as much as you can without drowning in water! I thought I'd
grow gills after the first year... LOL...It's one thing you must continue
even after weight loss stops! Don't worry as long as you are trying....You
may never be able to get in exactly 64 ounces...I cannot do it in the
winter...but summer I can drink 100 oz on hot days! So it really is just
an estimate...Hope that helps!
