Question:

I had my surgery on 02/09/09 and I have been very constipated. Before surgery I used to take Fibre-Sure which is a product make by Metamucil to help add that extra fibre to your diet. All you had to do it add it to your water/ or food. Now that I am on the pureed diet I can not get the fibre from my foods since vegetables are not allowed yet except for caned carrots and pees, but I sill do not get enough fibre from my foods. Has anyone 2 weeks post-op used a product like this?    — trinity P. (posted on February 24, 2009)

I would highly suggestyou consult your physician before you do that. you may not be getting enought fluids which would add to your constipation. Call your Doctor.

I'm not real sure about fiber supplements...I know I was not allow any fiberous "foods" for 3 months because it could get stuck in healing pouches....I'm not sure about soluble or insoluble fiber products to be honest...Milk of Magnesia (MOM) on the other hand is wonderful for constipation. That is what I used...Even later, I find that fiber products/supps can make me feel even more bloated and worse sometimes...I eat Original Fiber One Cereal now (too early for you yet) But keep it in mind later...It's an awesome snack and 1/4 cup gives you 14 gs of fiber! YEAH! Love it! Later for you though!

I usedd Fibre-Sure after my surgery to help me and it was great. I made sure I got the powder no sugar one which I dissolved in my water. Drank it and about 3 hrs later I was able to go to the washroom. It really helped.

Liquids, liquids, liquids! I didn't have constipation problems for a few months out (then it was bad). It's good to call the medicos before you start ingesting anything at this stage.

My doctor doesn't have a problem with it but I only do a supplement when necessary. Fiber One makes a sugar-free lemonade mix that's pretty good. If I'm having an off week I'll have a bottle then wait a couple days, see how it goes.

my surgeon told me that benefiber chewables (sweetened without sugar, orange tablets) was just fine to use. I used them until just recently when I graduated to salads.
