I am only 11 months post-op but for me yes to all the questions. I have to remind my self to eat and sweets I think about from time to time but as fast as I think of them I forget them.

Oh my goodness, yes! I had RNY six weeks ago and my taste buds have totally changed. Soup is really the only thing that is 'comforting'...but that is because all other food just doesn't sound good. I get full very fast. I know that my surgery is very recent, but I am very full at 2 oz. of anything (including soup). Sweets hold no interest for me. I have had two baby showers (we're adopting two babies) since surgery and the cake just about turns my stomach. No interest! I have lost a total of 44lbs. as of this morning. Best to you, Rebecca

I am almost 9 mo post-op and initially I didn't have any cravings but now they come and go but are not as bad and are much more manageable. Everyone is an individual.

I will be 5 years post-op next week (rny) and for more than a year I had no desire to eat but had to force myself. I went from 297 to 172 and am now 176. I can now eat anything but have smaller meals. Many times I leave my meal and come back 30 min to an hour later to finish it. I never did get sick with sweets but would have 1/4th of what I had before surgery. I would buy sugar free items but am now living in the Philippines and other than diet cola cannot find very much sugar free (especially ice cream). Anyway my wife keeps me in line. Gary

I can honestly say that I have lost my real interest in food beyond it being fuel for my body. I eat now because I need to eat to survive. The surgery made it possible for me because it took away my appetite. I have not had a thing with sugar since April. I don't miss it, but don't get me wrong, I still have to make choices about what I do eat because there are times when I am tempted. This surgery is a tool, it is not the total answer.

I had the RNY on 10/14/08. I have to make myself eat because I know my body needs food to survive. I have lost 45 lbs since surgery. I have no desire to eat sweets and if I smell them I get sick. I did test some bariatric desserts at a support group meeting Thanksgiving dinner that were good. Taste change after surgery. I have a whole different diet now than I did before surgery. Good Luck on your journey.

In answer to your Nov 23 post - I had surgery on Aug 18th, 2008. I very rarely feel hungry and when I am full, sometimes I cannot tell. I just eat the amount I am supposed to and if I feel uncomfortable then I know it is time to stop. I pretty much go by the rules. In the beginning, right after surgery, don't play around with quantities or items, just do what the nurses and doctors tell you to do. That way you will avoid any problems. They are professionals and know what they are telling you is the correct way. Also, in your 2nd question about losing the interest in sweets. I don't think about sweets but if I see them or someone eating sweets, would I like to have some - absolutely. But will I take a chance and try them - absolutely not! Good Luck to you in your venture to become a slimmer, healthier individual. I have lost 70 lbs in 3 months, am off most of my medications - just 1 more to go and I have so much energy I can hardly remember when I had so much. It feels great to start a project - even housecleaning - and not have to sit down 15 times to catch my breath or cool off. My internal thermostat is at a much cooler degree. And, last but not least, did I have questions such as what you are evidently having - Yes - up till the time they gave me anesthesia for the surgery. So have faith in your doctor - mine is wonderful - and look forward to being a much healthier and happier person.

yes i have no appetite ..and early on found eating to be an annoyance to my getting my fluid in. But you have to eat to lose weight...funny isn't it! we ate before surgery and didn't lose weight..now we have to eat to lose...I love to smell sweets, but I have vomited once ..and that was enough of a deterant to not want to eat anything sweet. I got sick from the sauce on chinese BBQ..I guess too much sugar...I also feel full sometimes..depending on what I have eaten. I always measure my food and eat 2 oz per meal. But as i said, if its something tough to digest..pork for me...then I get the full and yucky feeling..I try to avoid it. Good luck and God Bless! Hugs, kim

Two different answers for you. Seriously, I couldn't believe how little hunger I have felt since the surgery itself. That was over 10 months ago. It was like a light switch turning off the hunger. That part was great. The sweets? Arg, I wish I had never tried even one sweet thing. They were my downfall before and they now are again. I found out that I don't dump, which is one of the reasons I got the surgery to start with. I had hoped that bad results from eating sweets would keep me from eating them. Now, that I know there really won't be, I can not only tolerate them, but constantly have to fight not eating them. It IS a head game, though. I realize that. And I think the more carbs you eat, the more you want them. My advice? Don't even try sweets following surgery; don't tempt yourself. I wish I hadn't. :)

I think its really knowing that if you eat too much , you will get a stomach ache. When you do eat for the first time, you will surely be full after a few bites. As for the sweets, I tried to eat some here and there and it did not sit well at all. I was so nauseated that I didnt want them anymore.....Good Luck
