Question:
previous post about college student

i just want to say thank you to everyone that has given me their responses so far. I'm really taking everything into consideration........this surgery is for ME not Her and therefore I think I will just have to accept that regardless of what she says. I think the main reason I was so overly concerned is that it is her insurance that would be paying for it and she could do things that could stop me from getting it done. Also, I am already in the steps of getting all my pre-op work done for anyone with concerns about the time (i am on my 4th month of my 6 month weight loss program..down 14 lbs, and all i have left to do is my psych evaluaton and my nutricial consultation). So once again Thanks to everyone because your words of wisdom are greatly appreciated!    — uNiQuE, iTs wHaT i Am! (posted on September 3, 2008)

Once your insurance is in the system, I don't think your mother can mess it up. There are laws HIPAA and your information is private whether or not it is your mom's ins. If you let your mom rule your life you will never have any peace. My mom tried to do that to me. She died when I was 21 years old. That was many, many years ago. To this day it is so hard for me to have any nice thoughts about her. As far as I am concerned this surgery (lap band) for me was the easy way out. I have never lost weight so easy in my life nor maintained the weight. Good luck to you.

Hi There! Actually your mother has NO access to your information unless you specifically gave the insurance company or medical offices permission to give her info. I also have a college daughter who is on my insurance and her info is totally PRIVATE. I can not access it online or by phone (unless I pretended that I was her which is ILLEGAL.) So there is really nothing she can do unless she drops you from the policy which is a completely different family issue. Good Luck to you!
