Question:
pain in stomach post op with lap band and hernia repair ( 6 wks)
Maybe I wasn't clear with my previous question about my port protruding and my lap band and hernia. I am 6 wks post op and DID have my hernia repaired which did cause my surgery to be 4 hours instead of 2 hours. I am also asthmatic. I am looking for suggestions or help with the pain that I am feeling in my stomach when I eat and from my port which is protruding and is visible. My surgeon says since I lost 25 lbs that the more I lose the more the the port will bother me. My question is shouldn't the surgeon have known which port to place based on his experience. I haven't even had a fill yet and am supposed to go August 7th for the 1st. I will then find out if the port as flipped. Thanks — pamela P. (posted on August 1, 2008)

Sorry I misunderstood.......but hernia surgery is much more painful than
the Lap Band surgery itself and it takes a bit longer to bounce
back.....but if your port has flipped that can cause the extra pain you are
feeling in your port area.....most all Dr's put in the normal size port as
it is easier to acess......when you have lost a significant amout of weight
the they will go in and put in a low profile port.......maybe you are just
one that has lost just enough to cause port protrusin early on....if the
port is flipped and causing the protrusin then it is a easy fix.....most
Dr's use general anthesia....filp the port back into place and stitch it
down....if you need a low profile port it will handled the same way.

I too have some discomfort with my port. I think I may just be more
sensitive because right now I am caring for two grandbabies and I am using
my stomach to get up and down. I finally decided that I would have to
learn to adjust to the port in order for this to work. Check with your dr
and make sure everything is okay and ask him/her what options you have.
Good luck and keep on keeping on!
