Question:
I had RNY done in Jan of 2002, I had suffered ever since that surgery with
horrible stomach cramps and not being able to have bowel movements--I would go see the doctor and he would just yell at me and tell me I was eating the wrong things, I went to a differnt doctor this past January as Dr Wongsa had retired, I had revision(lapband done) but he got the report from doctor wongsa and he said my bowels were put back in backwards? Is this a normal part of the RNY? I dont ever remember Dr wongsa telling me anything about it. — tylerswife (posted on May 27, 2008)

No I do not believe this is normal but I am VERY sorry to hear that the
first Dr. wasn't truthful with you. Maybe he was afraid of a lawsuit or
something. I pray that your new Dr. is honest and cares for you and your
health completely and can help you get this taken care of. I would be
interested in hearing updates. God Bless

I dont think this is normal. If you had RNY it was done laproscopicaly and
as far as I understand they dont take anything "OUT" Hence
laproscopically.I would get to a surgeon immediatly

I cannot see how the bowels can be "Backwards" unless the doctor
means that the short section of the bowel and the long section of the bowel
were switched accidentally and that the short section was connected to the
pouch and the long section was connected to the bottom of the stomach and
the liver. This would be highly improbable. I am not going to say
IMPOSSIBLE but it is unlikely. I suggest that you find another specialist
and have them do some tests to see what is actually going on with your
intestines.
