I just moved to the mushy/pureed stage. I was only to eat 2 oz per meal,
three times a day. They gave my little medicine cups, one oz cups, in
which to measure out my "meals". Then sipping water, as much I
could, and protein drinks in between.

Hi Arden,
I was told no more than 4 oz at a time for a meal, but to start with 2 oz,
then wait a few min, then try the 3rd and 4th oz. At first I could only
get down 2-3 oz. Now I can get the whole 4 oz of soup down. I just make
sure to measure before I start eating!!! I even weight my solids now to
make sure that I don't go over 4 oz. Hope this helps. Good Luck

Just do a quickie estimate of the calories...you certainly don't want to be
eating 2000 calories at this point and creams can add quite a lot of
calories from fat...Eat til you are satisfied because this is how you will
have to eat forever. If you eat til full now, you will eventually gain
weight...So don't eat til you feel full...eat til you are no longer
hungry...Hope that helps
Good luck

Liquids probably won't make your tummy full, but you have to retrain your
mind to BE FULL. It takes a while to learn, but measuring helps to tell
your mind when it's full.

Arden, anytime you stop yourself from eating, it is noteworthy! Congrats.
Just because you can eat more doesn't mean you should eat more. That is
why we are in the mess we are in. Keep going that direction. Patricia P.

I had RNY last week and was provided a very regimented diet (pureed) by the
surgeon and dietician which calculated the protein and calories based on my
individual needs. I wonder if you should call your doctor and/or dietician
and ask them for some guidelines.

Your focus needs to be protein, and 70% of your calories needs to be
protein and the balance fresh fruits and vegatables. Now in this stage
that sound like it is impossible, but it is not. Keep your calories to no
more than 1000 to 12000 per day through month 6. Try running Del Monte
"no sugar added" Peaches and pears. They are slider food that
will not stay in the pouch like soup, so there is no strain on the
stitches. That is why they will not allow you any semi solid or solid
foods right now. Chart what you it. For the time beaing, join a food
charting service for a month or two like www.myfooddiarey.com. Best of
success to you.
