Yes if your doctor is doing you open, but it if it Lapscroptly then he is
going to want you to diet for two weeks before and loose ten pounds so he
does not ahve a hard time getting the liver elivated above your stomach.
It just tem pound and two weeks of dieting before surgery. Its a good time
to try the puree menues that you will have to have when you get home from
the hospital. Go for it. Best of Success.

hi there - the majority of the world has a fatty liver- to answer your
question, yes you can have the surgery, doesn't make a difference whether
its open or lap, however its easier to have open with a fatty liver. In
the best of times, if your doc is on his toes, he/she will ask you to go on
a clear liquid diet from 7 - 14 days prior to surgery.
this will shrink the liver and make it easier for your doctor to get in
there and do his/her thing without any complications- the number of pounds
lost doesn't matter in the realm of things, but the type of eating program
matters. remember- its clear liquids- not cream soups, and definitely
nothing with fat in it. I had my pre- op patients do this for years before
I retired, and even if they cheated and went off the clear liquids, often
times just a few days just before they had their surgery, it made a big
difference. Its all for your benefit. Good luck on your journey. Dr

I was told most of my life that I had a fatty liver. I just had LapBand
surgery on 3/19/08 and my doctor had me on a pre-op diet and I lost 17 lbs
the two weeks before surgery. I had no problems at all and no complications
during my surgery and after. Since November of 07 when I saw my surgeon, I
have lost 53 lbs. Since surgery I have lost 17 lbs.

I, too, had a fatty liver, but the pre-op 2 week diet helped me lose 20 lbs
and have the band in laproscopically.

I have a fatty liver and I will be having Lap Band 4-16-08 and I didn't
have to go on a special diet...
