Question:
Optifast suggestions??? ...Anyone?
I'm on Optifast for the next 2 weeks. I can drink diet pop, coffe or tea with splenda, and chew gum. I am having a really hard time getting the Optifast down!!! It's "chocolate" flavoured (and i mean that in the loosest terms). If anyone was successful at making it taste half decent i would be greatful to know how! *gulp* :S — kels78 (posted on December 7, 2007)

I would suggest a few things: first, stop using the gum and diet pop. Those
are things they don't want you to have after surgery. If possible, use
decaffinated tea and coffeee--after surgery they want you to use this.
Thirdly, there are either no calorie or very low calorie/sugar whey protein
drinks out there. I still use Isopure shakes 1 1/2 years past surger, 4 or
5 times each week. You'll have to depend on these type of protein shakes
for the first few weeks past surgery to get enough protien into your daily
diet. Most supplement shakes taste better chilled. I still make the
Isopure shakes in the Magic Bullet (blender that used small cup) using a
couple of ice cubes and chilled water.

I added crushed ice and water. You can also add a syrup flavored with
splenda. DiVinci makes a lot of flavors. I like the Torani. It adds zero
calories and nutrition, but it does improve the flavor a little. I used
about 2 table spoons. Hope this helps.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I put a little thought into it today,
and i'm going to try something ....well, kind of different. I blended the
water and optifast powder as instructed, then poured the mixture into my
icecube tray. When it freezes i'm going to break each 'opti-cube' into
quarters and swallow it with water, just like taking medicine! Here's goes
everything:P

I feel for you! I remember how hideous that stuff was too and I had a very
hard time getting it down. Whoever developed the product and thought that
the stuff tasted like chocolate has obviously never tasted chocolate in
their life! The only thing I found that worked was adding about 2 Tbls of
Splenda and some Vanilla extract. Then I plugged my nose and chugged it
down as fast as possible. I only tried the ice thing once because I found
that it just slowed down the rate i could glup it at. I did toy with the
idea of using mint extract, but I never got around to trying it.
Good luck to you!
