HAVEN'T HAD WLS YET BUT; I SURE YOU STILL HAVE SWELLING WHICH CAN CAUSE YOU TO SEE THE INCREASE IN WEIGHT.....HANG IN THERE AND STAY AWAY FROM THE SCALE FOR A WHILE AND I'M SURE YOU WILL BE PLEASANTLY SUPRISE WHEN YOU WEIGH IN AGAIN........ KEEP THE FAITH YOU ARE NOW ON THE OTHER SIDE....

You may still be bloated from your surgery. I would call your Dr and ask. Try not to weigh every day. It will make you crazy. Trust me I know!

Did you have a drain? I did not and I gained 17lb from the time I went into the hospital to the day I went out. It was all fluid. Just keep up the fluid intake, make sure you are staying hydrated. Also, I agree with the last post, don't weigh everyday if you are. I made that mistake and got discouraged. I changed it to once a week and it was better because I actually saw the weight coming off 2-3 lbs at a time, if not more than that at first. Hang in there, it will start falling off in no time! Good luck and congrats on your surgery.

Well I had my surgery on 10/29 and i had a couple of days i gained a pound or half a pound, but then 2 or 3 pounds would come off, and all together i am 30 lbs lighter from the day of my surgery. The best i could figure is the days i didnt lose I may have been dehydrated, body was holding on to what it could.. so drink plenty of fluids.

B/C OF FLUID AND SWELLING, YOUR WEIGHT WILL FLUCTUATE. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU START EATTING REG. FOODS. ALSO, WEIGHING YOURSELF CERTAIN TIMES OF DAY WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR WEIGHT. DON'T WORRY YOU WILL START TO SEE A CHANGE REAL SOON. GOOD LUCK

Drink water, water, and more water! Don't weigh yourself more than once a week - I don't weigh from check up to check up because I am in a W/C and don't have the right scale so it's always a surprise. Just do what your diet says and the weight will come off. Good luck. Nanajane

I also had my wls on 11/5.... the doctor told me if I gained 2 or more pounds a day I was to come back to the hospital... was not sure why so you might want to check with your dr. I went and seen my yesterday ( 1 week post-op) and I had lost 11 pounds. When do you go back to the doctor?

I gained 20 lbs after surgery, Doctor said I was dehydrated. It happens, don't worry I am sure it is not lbs but water weight, call your doctor and let them know. Mine came off after 2 weeks and then I started to lose. I am 11 months (almost) out now and at goal, so try not to weigh yourself all the time, I did too but it gets discouraging. Try to stick to once a week, it gives you something to look forward too. Best of luck to you!

Sometimes WLS will throw off your womanly cycle. You could be gaining from hormonal fluctuations. I swore for a week after WLS that my doc had actually done a hysterectomy and put me into early menopause! It was crazy! Hot flashes like nobody's business!!!

I had my RN-Y on 11/6 and was told by the medical staff that the body goes through a period following surgery called "third staging" where it retains fluid because it senses it's going through a starvation phase. I had a Jackson Pratt drain post-op which withdrew fluid residue from the surgical site inside and collected it in a blub outside. RNs periodically drained the bulb. My suggestion is to continue following your post-op diet plan and keep your fluid levels up. Your body should begain to flush out and weight will decrease. Good luck!

I know it seems frustrating! I was in your shoes about a month ago. Aug 12. started pre-op: 375lbs Day of Surgery (9/19/07): 346 (-29lb) 1st day home from Surgery (9/22/07): 360 (+14lbs) water/fluid 1 week post-op: 338 (-8 lbs + fluid gone, so) 2 week post-op: 329 ( -9lbs) 2.5 week post-op: 342 (+13lbs fluid retention) 3 week post-op: 335 (-7lbs fluid gone) 4 week post-op 327 (-8 lbs) Today: 8 weeks exactly 315 Total weight lost so far 60lbs from preop diet to now. So there were some periods of weight gain. And it's normal. Especially 2 lbs, even if it stays there for several days. It WILL go away. There is NO possible way for you to gain this early on and have it stay with you. My advice...weigh once a week. I know it's hard I was obsessive about every pound for awhile, but it will come off. Just know that it will. I weigh on Wednesdays now, which reminds me...I gotta go ;o) lol Good Luck! If it persists and continues to bother you, just give your surgeon/or surgeon's nurse a ring.

I am four weeks pre-op, but my doc wanred me against weighing myself saying that it is common to gain a couple lbs here and there due to swelling, water retension or being time for your period.
