Question:
Chronic Fatigue

Has anyone used Provigil for post op fatigue that is not related to depression?    — lindatower (posted on October 15, 2007)

well i've been on provigil along with my antidepressants before and after surgery...provigil is a mood uplifter but it also wakes you up because antidepressants tend to make you sleepy...good stuff....lol

Isn't Provigil the medication used for narcolepsy? I was put on it at one time for my sleep problems. Turns out it did not work for me. I have obstructive sleep apnea.

I take Provigil because it clears my head from my night time meds, yet it doesn't cause jitters or that "euphoric" feeling; just makes me functional!

Is Provigil similar to the ADD drug Adderall? Adderall wakes me up, helps with focus, but can cause jitters. Perhaps an option. I take the non-time release tab (as opposed to the time release capsule.)

I'm not post op. I have VGS on Oct. 25, but I have been on Provigil for three years. I was diagnosed with narcolepsy. The provigil does not keep you awake but allows you to stay awake when you need to be awake. Last year I was diagnosed with MS. I went to a seminar on MS and the doctors recommended two drugs for fatigue and for depression related to MS---Provigil and Prozad. I was on Provigil 200mg and was also on Prozac (for 15 years). Maybe that is one reason why I am doing soooo well with the MS. Prozac has a bad rep. It has absolutely changed my life both physically and mentally. The funny thing was I was not given Prozac for depression. I had tried Phen-fen and hated the way it made me feel (prior to being taken off the market) and begged my doctor for something else. He grudgingly gave me what they were trying at the time--Pro-fen (Prozac and fentermine). I didn't lose weight but the Prozac changed my life. I no longer was constipated, no longer had millions on pin pricks when scared, no longer had panic attacks, and on and on and on. I didn't even know these things were abnormal. It had just been a part of my life. I wish I had been on Prozac when I was raising my kids. My poor children! My every waking and sleeping moment was filled with trying to keep them alive. I had no idea I was out of control. Everyone who knew me thought I was the most together person they knew and so did I. Not even my doctor suspected any of my irrational fears. I am sooooo grateful for Prozac and Provigil. Pat

Linda, My roommate has cancer and she is now dealing with the worst part of having zero energy. Her doctor has given her Provigil and she uses it when she absolutely has to get some stuff done. However, if she takes it more then 2 days in a row then she gets a major headache. Hope this information helps.
