Question:
Has anyone used the new BCP called Yaz?
My doctor has prescribed Yaz for me to use as birth control and I am worried about weight gain. If anyone is on this pill can you please share any info with me. I am greatly concerned about gaining my weight back. Oh I am 16 months post-op and down 100 Lbs. Thanks in advance for all feed back. — coco2273 (posted on January 29, 2007)

Be VERY careful!!!!!!!! I was 7 months post op and I took my pills
religiously and I ended up pregnant. I was on Yasmine not Yaz. I did not
end up gaining any weight from the pill just got pregnant. I never had any
problems absorbing vitamins and I still got pregnant. So, if you don't want
a baby or can still have them BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!

I don't have any problems with Yaz aka Yasmin. I haven't gained any weight
with with and have been on it for almost a year - April 2006 and I had
surgery in October 2005 and continued to lose weight.
As someone else said, if this is going to be your only form of birth
control be very careful if you don't want to get pregnant as it isn't a
very strong form of birth control. I use two forms of bc just in case.

YAZ is not the same as Yasmin. Dosages of progesterone/estrogen differ.
YAZ is taken for 24 consecutive days ( active pills ), then 4 placebo
pills. This should give you a 4 day period. Yasmin is 3 wks active and 1
week inactive, so period can be for a week. Both are effective. I use
YAZ. My surgery date is 3/6 for Roux-en-Y Lap.
