Question:
I teach overseas 10 months out of the year. How can I get protein drinks?

I live in Albania, a third world country where mail service doesn't come close to the states! I'm just wondering what others do....We have such limited luggage space/and weight now! I can't imagine trying to lug a year's worth PLUS my clothes and needs for my classroom..... I just wondered if anyone else has faced this?!? Trish    — zoeysgrami (posted on June 28, 2006)

Protein powder will save you more room/weight than a pre-mixed protein drink. Other than that, I'm stumped. Good luck!

I think Profect is probably the way to go for you ... They are little vials and have 25g of protein. Bring some with you ... Ultimately, you will either have to cart a ton of the stuff and pay extra $$$ to the airlines or take a chance and have someone ship it to you. Good luck to you ... Perhaps your employer in Albania would be a good place to ship the protein supplements to or they have an idea of how to handle it ...

can you pay for extra luggage?? I agree about maybe shipping it to your boss. I would taste the profect before you buy it. As with all drinks some people don't like them. That is a good question? I wold try to pack as much as you can and try to do one a day somthing is better then nothing and then really eat the protein.

You can try to get your protein from food. chicken, fish, beans, I had a bowl of high protein cereal this morning, along with the cup of milk, that made 21 gm of protein. I have the Profect vials and can hardly stand them. I force myself to drink them since I have them, only being 3 1/2 oz, its not that hard.

THANKS to those of you that responded! I really do appreciate YOUR time and effort! :O) I'm drinking Whey Protein drinks this summer and have considered packing the powder in zip-locs....I realize "eating the protein" makes sense, but...I don't think I'll be able to get enough in! (From all that I've read and have been told) I have a couple of months yet to figure this one out....Trish

Patricia, I put a single serving of protein powder into the snack size ziplocs, then I put a couple of them into a bigger ziploc bag if I am going away. I know 10 mths worth would be ALOT of bags, but would pack easier than jugs of protein powder. About your supplements, are you going to be able to get vitamins, calcium citrate, iron and vit c, and B12 sublinguals? just something else to think about. I think that is would be especially important to keep up on your supplements, since the food supply may not be the same as is available here. Take care and let us know how you are doing. Hello, We are a military family so I understand the difficulty of getting certain products while stationed overseas. I just checked the GNC website and it appears that they will ship overseas, you can get protein powder from them and then mix it with milk and frozen fruit in a blender to make good tasting and healthy protein shakes. Check out GNC.com or call 1-877-GNC-4700. Good luck! Melinda
