Question:
Having a hard time eating solids
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to eat more solid foods? I am 10 weeks post-op and am still having a hard time getting down solids without the painful feeling in my chest. I take small bites and chew the food until it tastes like cardboard, but I still get that lump in my throat like a have a lot of gas... has anyone else had this problem? First of all I would contact your surgeon. You might have the beginning of
a stricture. I have gone through this and so I understand the pressure of
the food getting caught. You might be eating the wrong type of foods at
this point in your journey. Don't wait to contact him.

10 wks is still very early, Just my experience it might be different for
you but when I would get that little bubble in my throat it was because I
was eating to fast or to much at one time and it would start stacking in my
throat. Different textures of foods will do that also. Mainly dry things
like chicken breast or boiled eggs. If eating less doesnt help or the fact
that you chew till its like cardboard *Smiles* I would consider calling
your surgeons office and getting advice... Your WLS friend Jo

Well, first of all what kind of solid foods are you trying to eat? 10 Weeks
out isn't that far out and you shouldn't be eating to much solids I mean I
ate cottage cheese, yogart (but be careful of the sugar in it), I liked and
still do like bean soup this all has protein in it. Best of luck to you.

I have delt with a pouch for over 15 years, and recently had a revision to
a r n y. My pouch is used to food and doesn't cause me any problems, but
it did when I first had a pouch 15 years ago. What I have learned is that
a new pouch is troubled with textures, that one day it will accept
something based on how you chewed it, how dense it is, and how much air is
already sitting in an empty pouch. In the morning it is better to slowly
loosen up your pouch with very warm liquid. Then start trying to eat
alittle after that. As the day progresses, and you chew well, and choose
less dense foods, you should have more success than failure. Good luck M
