Question:
Are you at more risk for blood clot if you already have an artificial knee joint?
i had my knee replaced in 2000 and in 2001. i wonder if that puts me at more risk since i still do not have complete movement in the joint — [Anonymous] (posted on August 3, 2001)

I had bi-lateral knee replacements done in 1998 and had LAP RNY done April
10 of this year. I didn't run any greater risk for blood clots due to the
replacements. There are other factors that may make a person more likely
to have blood clots but I don't feel this is one of them. I didn't have
any blood thinners before or after my WLS so I know my surgeon didn't
consider the replacements a risk. I had the inflatable leg cuffs on my
calf area, which is a common procedure with many post-op patients of WLS.
