Question:
Have a date now, just trying to get ready!!
I have a date for my surgery on August 16th. I made it my goal to stop all fast food and soda on June 1st, and am doing great... it is so hot and that makes it easier for me to drink lots of water. I was wondering if post-op I'd be able to drink Propel? I've had one Nut say yes and haven't had the chance to ask the new Nut... Also, will I be able to drink cold water post-op or will it need to be room temp? I will probably have TONS more questions in the coming weeks, feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like to give me some advice!! — Clumsybarbie (posted on June 3, 2010)

Congradulations on your date,, it will come soon. Stopping fast food is a
great idea its all to high in fat anyhow and the pop is a no no after
surgery as its a carbonated drink and we can have that and to high in
sugar, what type of surgery is it. As for the water temp, i can only have
room temp as the to cold bothers my pouch,, but everyone is different. I do
drink flavourd water at times is that Propel is? If so that is fine. Your
going on the right track.

I was not able to handle Propel after surgery. Others have had no problem.
In fact it was another RNY patient that gave me some, but it did not go
down well for me. I don't see why cold water would be a problem; your first
"sips" may be ice anyways.
You will do great and all your worries now will disappear in time.
Good luck and congratulations on this life changing decision!!

Congratulations on your date. It will come fast for you. Good for you to
get in some good habits now before the surgery. What works for one person
may not work you so you need to be aware of that. For myself I like my
drinks cold (on ice). For breakfast now I make myself a mocha protein
shake & pour it over ice.

Hi,
My NUT said propel was not a great choice as there was no protein in it.
Your main concern after surgery is going to be
water...water..protein..protein. I found flavored packets to add to my
water that have 15grms of protein to boot. They are from ProtiDiet, i get
them from my NUT but have also found them on www.Bariatricchoice.com. They
come in a ton of flavors and are pretty good. I have not had my surgery
yet.. August 3rd...but my boyfreind had a sleeve done on 3-23-10 and I am
just following what he does to get myself prepared. Check out that website,
they have a lot of great stuff. We were told that because you are limited
by stomach size that hydration and protein intake are key. So we are trying
to find anything and everything we can that had protein in it to drink
because it has been so hard for my boyfriend to get in his protein and
fluids. He became dehydrated at one point. This TOOL that you will be given
is AWESOME..but does require that you go through lots of trial and error.
Good luck to you.. keep in touch as we will be so close in our surgery
dates.
