Question:
How much weight should I be losing I had RNY Feb 18,2010

I have lost 44 pound so far and it seems like this past two weeks I have only lost a pound or two.I would have thought it would have been more because I have been having diarhea.Does anyone know if this is normal?I haven't been sick at all.How can I stop the it ,sometimes I can't even keep water down for running to the restroom. It is such an inconvenience!    — davonjack (posted on April 24, 2010)

I had RNY on Feb 1, 2010, so I am 2 1/2 weeks ahead of you and at my 7 week check up, I had lost 45lbs. Right now I have lost 58. You will have stalls. It seemed like to me I was in a constant stall and I felt like I wasn't losing anything, but I was. I did have a stricture that had to be taken care of...twice. Do you get sick after you eat a certain type of food? Are you keeping a food journal? You must remember that your body is going thru BIG changes and it will take a while to re adjust. Take it from me....you have to just take it day by day and every day it does get a little better. Goodluck to you!

I know I sound like a broken record but here goes. I only weighed myself once a week, I was going nuts when I weighed daily. I also jouranl my weight loss. My Dr's diet is such, no carbs until you lose 75% of your weight loss. If you think you are not losing check what you are eating. but I think you are doing pretty well. I just checked my journal and I think I lost a little bit more than you, but I did not have any carbs except beans and my NUT said that I should stop that, but then the weight came off so I continued it. I also walk everyday too. Good Luck my weight loss sister!

Natasha you should consult your doctor or surgeon to see what can be done about the diarhea. As for how much you "should" be loosing they can help you with that also however right here at OH you can get a chart that shows weight loss based on your height and starting weight. I had my surgery on march 15th, so about a month after you. I have lost 38lbs. I think I'm losing it slow also, but I'm pretty content with my weight lost. The first 3 weeks I've lost from 7-10 lbs a week, then only 1-3 lbs a weeks...I think it's a healthy rate to lose weight, but that's just my opinion. In 9 weeks you have lost close to 45 lbs, that's just about an average of 5 lbs a week! I'd say that's an accomplishment! You're body have to get adjusted to all this weight lost at some point, so you are going to have some good weeks and not so good weeks. It also depends, like mention before, how much weight you have to lose or what your initial weight was... I do keep a journal of everything I eat and drink and keep track of my protein intake, fluid intake, and calorie intake. I walk a little every day but soon will start going to the gym. About the diarrhea I would definitely check with your MD. I don't recall having diarrhea even once since the surgery, some might say I'm lucky, and I would probably say that myself... I did have loose stool for a few weeks but now it's all back to normal. Are you taking Iron pills? Cause sometimes that could cause constipation...so I would be surprise and worried if you do take them and still have diarrhea? It will get better I'm sure of it! You are doing great on your weight lost. Keep on losing!

I have the same question because at this point I have given up. I had my RNY on Mar. 9th and I have only lost 31 lbs. I can't take the disappointment in myself. I can't eat food and it gets me depressed daily so I don't eat. It hurts when it goes down so I just rather not even eat food.

i had my RNY on feb 27, 2010 and lost a total of 40 lbs including the 8 pre surgery so only 32 post op in 8 weeks. from all the hundreds of profiles i read that is about normal well for someone starting at my weight of 252 lbs, most at that weight lost approx 30 the first month and about 10 each month til about the 6 month mark then went down. i currently am going thru my second stall in 8 weeks which is very frustrating at times but i know im not very far behind the norm so i try not to let it bother me. are you on any probiotics? there was a 2 week period i was literally in the bathroom every half hour i went to walmart and bought a probiotic called acidopolus which has over 3 billion of the good bacteria our bodies need and it went away within a few days. i still take it cause it can only help not hurt. its the same good bacteria thats in yogurt. its worth a try it might help you also.
