Question:
I had lap band surgery on August 27th and all went really well except the gas pains.
How can i get rid of them? I have tried walking and gasx i even dangled upside down off of the bed and nothing helps. Any suggestions? — sheeder1980 (posted on September 1, 2009)

gas x will not help as the gas is not in your intestines. were you given
pain meds? take the max dosage as often as possible and stay ahead of the
pain.

My doctors staff recommended a heating pad for the gas pains. That was
especailly helpful when the pain was in my left shoulder. It's subtle, but
it really works. Good luck.

I disagree with the previous poster, Gas-X has become my new "best
friend". For persistent pain that nothing seems to help I would
contact my physician and getsome suggestions from him/her. Hope this
helps.

Gas-X did not help me either. The heating pad did. In fact that was the
only way I could sleep at night.

I used walking and peppermint tea. I think they both really helped.
(Peppermint tea is supposed to be helpful in the release of gas and gas
pain.)

if you take lots of pain meds that will constipate you and you will be in
worse condition. keep walking, using a heating pad and consult your doctor
as each person is individual and that's what the doctor and his team are
there for. make sure your foods are causing the gas ie

I had my lap band on August 20th. The first 5 days the gas pain was bad
then after that the pain was gone. Give it a couple of more days and
hopefully it will do like mine.

Dangled upside down? LOL...sorry, that was funny! They pump your body
cavity with gas during surgery to make it safer and easier for them to
manipulate the instruments inside your body. Gas-X can help, as can walking
and burping because the gas is slowly absorbed into your bloodstream and
processed out that way. It can even settle up in your shoulder and cause
some significant discomfort until it is dissipated this way. I promise,
you'll be lots better in a week's time. Hang in there. Upside right this
time. This too shall pass. Pun is intended! :o)
